West Palm Beach announces city closures and adjusted schedules in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays
West Palm Beach, Florida – West Palm Beach city officials have announced closures and adjusted service schedules for the upcoming Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays, giving residents ample time to plan for city services during the festive season. City Hall, the Mandel Public Library, Grassy Waters Preserve Nature Center and Cypress Boardwalk Trail, along with all non-essential city services, will be closed on Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, 2025, in observance of Christmas, and again on Thursday, January 1, 2026, for New Year’s Day.
City Hall will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, December 29, following the Christmas holiday, and will resume operations at 8 a.m. on Friday, January 2, after the New Year’s Day closure. The Mandel Public Library will close early at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 24, and reopen at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 27. For the New Year’s holiday, the library will close early at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, and reopen at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, January 2.
Outdoor enthusiasts visiting the Grassy Waters Preserve Nature Center and Cypress Boardwalk Trail will also experience closures at the Nature Center and Boardwalk but will still have access to other trails during the holiday period. The center and boardwalk will reopen at 8 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, following Christmas, and again at 8 a.m. on Friday, January 2, after New Year’s Day. All other trails will remain open to the public throughout the holidays.
City officials have also detailed the adjusted trash and recycling schedules. On Christmas Day, residential trash collection and recycling services will not operate, resuming on the next scheduled service day. Bulk and yard waste collection, as well as commercial services, will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. For New Year’s Day, residential trash service will again be suspended, while recycling will continue on schedule. Bulk and yard waste collection and commercial services will be delayed by one day through the remainder of the week.
These adjusted schedules are designed to ensure residents are aware of service interruptions and can plan accordingly, minimizing inconvenience during the busy holiday season. Residents are encouraged to check their regular service days and note the temporary delays for bulk, yard, and commercial waste collection.
Mayor Keith A. James, the West Palm Beach City Commission, and city staff extended warm holiday wishes to all residents. “We wish everyone a happy, safe and joyous Holiday Season,” said city officials, emphasizing both the importance of community and the enjoyment of family, friends, and festive traditions.
With closures spanning multiple days, city officials remind residents to complete necessary business with city departments ahead of the holidays and to take advantage of open trails and recreational spaces where possible. Planning ahead will help ensure that holiday celebrations go smoothly and that essential services resume promptly when offices reopen.
The city’s clear communication of holiday schedules for both facilities and waste collection aims to maintain safety, convenience, and enjoyment for West Palm Beach residents while recognizing the importance of giving city staff time to celebrate the season with their families. By observing these closures and service adjustments, the community can focus on holiday festivities while remaining informed and prepared for any temporary disruptions.
