Fort Lauderdale celebrates the reopening of Huizenga Park with new green spaces and public art for the community
Fort Lauderdale, Florida – The City of Fort Lauderdale is celebrating the reopening of Huizenga Park, a cherished downtown green space that has been revitalized for the community to enjoy. The newly reimagined park offers residents and visitors alike a welcoming place to relax, socialize, and connect with the city’s vibrant riverfront.
“This is an exciting moment for our city as we bring new life to the heart of downtown,” city officials said. The transformation of Huizenga Park creates a dynamic space designed for both recreation and community gatherings, reflecting the vision of a modern urban oasis.
The park now features an expansive event lawn perfect for concerts, festivals, and public gatherings, alongside a shaded dog run where pet owners can enjoy time with their furry companions. Peaceful riverfront seating areas provide a tranquil escape amid the bustle of downtown, inviting visitors to relax and take in views of the water.
Art lovers will also find a unique addition in the park’s public sculpture, Cabeza con Mariposas, by renowned artist Manolo Valdés. The work was generously donated through the James W. Laird Estate, adding a cultural highlight to the park and enhancing its visual appeal for all who visit.
The reopening of Huizenga Park was made possible through a collaboration between the Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority (Downtown FTL), generous donors, and local community partners who helped bring the vision to life. Their combined efforts have created a space that balances natural beauty, art, and recreation while serving as a gathering spot for the city’s diverse population.
With its mix of open green spaces, recreational amenities, and cultural attractions, the revitalized Huizenga Park is poised to become a central hub for community engagement in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to visit, explore the new features, and experience the park as a vibrant destination for relaxation, socialization, and inspiration.
