Broward County Public Schools recognized as Cambridge District of the Year for the 2025/26 school year
Broward County, Florida – Broward County Public Schools has once again received national recognition for its academic programs, earning the title of Cambridge District of the Year for the 2025/26 school year in the Large District category. The honor, awarded by Cambridge International Education, highlights the district’s continued efforts to expand challenging academic opportunities while helping students achieve strong results on international exams.
The award places Broward County Public Schools among a select group of districts across the United States recognized for excellence in implementing Cambridge programs. Each year, Cambridge International Education selects one large, one medium, and one small district nationwide based on their ability to grow access to the rigorous coursework while maintaining high student achievement.
For Broward County Public Schools, the recognition is not new—but it remains significant. The district has now earned the distinction three times, having previously received the same honor during the 2017/18 and 2020/21 school years. The repeated recognition reflects a long-term effort by educators and administrators to make advanced academic pathways available to more students.
District leaders say the achievement belongs to the entire school community.
“This recognition reflects the hard work, dedication and shared commitment of our students, teachers, school leaders and families,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn. “We are proud to expand access to rigorous Cambridge coursework that prepares our students for success in college, careers and life.”
The Cambridge District of the Year award is determined using performance data from Cambridge examinations taken during the previous school year. For the 2025/26 award cycle, judges evaluated student results from the 2024/25 academic year, focusing on both participation in the program and exam performance.
The Cambridge curriculum, which is offered in schools around the world, provides students with academically demanding courses designed to build strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Many students choose the program because it can open doors to college credit opportunities and scholarships.
Students who successfully complete Cambridge classes and perform well on the accompanying exams may earn college credit before graduating from high school. In Florida, strong performance in the program can also help students qualify for the highly competitive Florida Bright Futures scholarship, which can provide full tuition support for college.
Because of these opportunities, participation in Cambridge coursework has grown steadily across Broward County schools in recent years. District officials say expanding access has been a key priority, ensuring that students from a wide range of backgrounds can take advantage of the program’s academic benefits.
Teachers play an important role in that expansion. Many educators have undergone specialized training to teach Cambridge curriculum, helping students navigate advanced coursework while preparing them for the exams that determine college credit eligibility.
School leaders say the program not only strengthens academic preparation but also encourages students to develop the independence and discipline required for college-level work.
The recognition from Cambridge International Education highlights that effort, pointing to both the district’s commitment to expanding access and the impressive results achieved by its students.
For Broward County Public Schools, the honor serves as both a celebration and a reminder of the work still ahead. District officials say they remain focused on continuing to grow the program and providing even more students with opportunities to challenge themselves academically.
Families interested in learning more about Cambridge programs within Broward County Public Schools can explore available courses, participating schools, and program pathways through the district’s official website.
As the district celebrates its third Cambridge District of the Year recognition, leaders say the award ultimately reflects what happens daily inside classrooms—students pushing themselves, teachers guiding them, and a school community committed to academic excellence.
