Hollywood Beach dune and beach restoration project is now underway to protect the shoreline and enhance coastal resiliency

Broward County, Florida – Broward County has launched a major dune and beach restoration project along Hollywood Beach, aiming to enhance coastal resiliency and protect the shoreline. The project, expected to be completed by the end of April, will bring new sand to select areas of the beach and rebuild dunes in key locations. Officials say the work is part of a long-term effort to maintain the beach’s health and safety for both residents and visitors.

The restoration will involve a fleet of dump trucks delivering sand directly to the beach, where heavy machinery will spread it evenly to rebuild dunes and restore the shoreline. Construction is planned to take place Monday through Friday from sunrise to sunset, progressing in a north-to-south direction along the beach. Broward County officials emphasize that no road closures or detours are expected, although some temporary impacts on parking and beach access will occur near active construction areas.

Contractor operations will begin in the parking lot between Bougainvilla Terrace and Azalea Terrace in Hollywood, with staging expected from January 20 through April 30. During this period, parking will be reduced in the area, and the public is urged to follow all posted signage and directions to ensure safety. “Please abide by all contractor signage and direction during construction to ensure your safety. We appreciate your cooperation,” county officials said.

Initial mobilization will take place at Meade Street, with sand placement scheduled from Dania Pier to Meade Street from approximately January 20 to January 30, working north to south. Following that, crews will move from Meade Street to Cleveland Street between February 2 and February 20, working south to north. For safety reasons, access at Meade Street may be temporarily closed during sand delivery, although nearby beach accesses will remain open.

No dunes will be constructed in the section between Cleveland Street and Harrison Street as part of this phase of the project. Construction will then shift to Bougainvilla Terrace, with mobilization expected from February 23 through March 27. Sand placement will occur from Harrison Street to Bougainvilla Terrace from approximately February 23 to February 27, working north to south. Following that, crews will continue from Bougainvilla Terrace to southern Hollywood from March 2 to March 27, working south to north. Similar to Meade Street, beach access at Bougainvilla Terrace may be temporarily closed during sand delivery, but nearby access points will remain unaffected.

Officials note that the schedule is subject to change as work progresses and that updates will be provided to keep the public informed. “Please abide by all contractor signage and direction during construction to ensure your safety. We appreciate your cooperation,” they reiterated.
