Nearly 1,000 BCPS students will gather at the annual Broward Youth Climate Summit to explore environmental solutions and career pathways
Broward County, Florida – Broward County Public Schools is preparing to welcome nearly 1,000 students for its eighth annual Broward Youth Climate Summit, a flagship event that continues to grow in size and impact each year. Scheduled for Friday, February 6, 2026, at Pompano Beach High School, the summit will begin at 10 a.m., bringing together students, teachers, administrators, local climate experts, elected officials, and community leaders for a day dedicated to environmental action.
Organized by BCPS’ Applied Learning Department, this year’s summit carries the theme Trash Talking: Less Waste, More Action, emphasizing practical strategies for reducing waste and promoting sustainable living. Students in grades 5 through 12 will engage in workshops, discussions, and collaborative projects aimed at finding real-world solutions to environmental challenges. The event is recognized as one of the largest youth climate summits in the country, reflecting BCPS’ commitment to empowering young people as leaders in climate advocacy.

“The Broward Youth Climate Summit provides a platform for students to share their voices and become champions for environmental stewardship,” organizers said, highlighting the event’s focus on student-led initiatives. Beyond exploring waste reduction, participants will have opportunities to learn about career pathways in environmental fields, advocate for policy change, and collaborate with peers who share a passion for sustainability.
The summit is not just a learning experience but a chance for students to see the tangible impact they can have on their communities. Through hands-on activities and expert-led sessions, students are encouraged to turn ideas into actionable projects, fostering a sense of ownership over local and global environmental issues. Teachers and staff will guide students in applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills, ensuring that the lessons extend beyond the day of the summit.
Local leaders and climate experts are also slated to engage with students, offering guidance and insight into how young voices can influence environmental policies. By connecting education with community involvement, BCPS aims to cultivate a generation of informed and proactive citizens ready to tackle the pressing challenges of climate change.
As excitement builds for the 2026 Broward Youth Climate Summit, organizers hope the event will inspire students to continue advocating for sustainable practices long after the summit ends. With nearly 1,000 participants expected, the day promises a dynamic mix of learning, collaboration, and empowerment, all centered on creating a cleaner, greener future for Broward County and beyond.
