Pine Crest Upper School students receive national recognition for outstanding work in 2026 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards
Pine Crest, Florida – Pine Crest Upper School is celebrating an outstanding year as its visual art students earn significant honors in the 2026 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, one of the nation’s most prestigious programs recognizing young creative talent. This year, multiple Pine Crest students were awarded Gold Keys, Silver Keys, Honorable Mentions, and even nominations for the highly selective American Visions Award, placing them among the top emerging artists in the country.
Among the standout accomplishments is Maya Todorov ’26, whose painting “Portrait of Death” received a Gold Key and was also nominated for the American Visions Award, the highest regional distinction in the program. Maya’s creative success did not stop there; she also earned an additional Gold Key and an Honorable Mention, demonstrating both the strength and versatility of her artistic vision.
Another notable achievement comes from Caterina Farrell ’26, whose painting “Rush Hour” earned her a Gold Key and an American Visions Award nomination. Remarkably, this marks Caterina’s third consecutive National Gold Medal nomination, a rare accomplishment in the Scholastic Awards’ long history. Caterina’s portfolio also garnered a Silver Key, highlighting her sustained excellence across multiple works and categories.
“The American Visions Award recognizes outstanding artistic achievement from each geographic region. Only a small number of Gold Key works are selected as nominees, making this distinction especially competitive,” explained program representatives. Gold Key winners, including Maya and Caterina, will advance to national adjudication in New York City, where National Medalists will be announced this March.
Other Pine Crest students also earned recognition. Victoria Popov ’28 received a Gold Key for her work “Apex,” adding to the school’s growing legacy of creative excellence. These awards reflect the school’s dedication to nurturing talent and fostering an environment where students can push artistic boundaries while gaining national attention.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have celebrated young artists and writers since 1923, producing an impressive list of alumni who have gone on to shape American culture. Past participants include iconic figures such as Stephen King, Andy Warhol, Amanda Gorman, and Joyce Carol Oates, showcasing the program’s reputation for identifying and promoting the next generation of influential creators.
Locally, the awards are presented by the Young At Art Museum in partnership with the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, providing students with both regional exposure and a stepping stone to national recognition. For Pine Crest Upper School, the accolades demonstrate not only individual talent but also the strength of the school’s visual arts program in guiding students toward artistic success on a national stage.
For the students themselves, the recognition is both a validation and a motivator. Achievements like Gold Keys and American Visions Award nominations underscore the dedication, creativity, and hours of work that go into each piece. Beyond competition, the awards provide a platform for students to share their perspectives, stories, and artistic voices with a wider audience.
“Congratulations to all!” said school representatives. “We are incredibly proud of our students for their remarkable accomplishments and for representing Pine Crest with such distinction in this national program.”
With the national adjudication taking place in New York City this March, anticipation is high. Pine Crest students and faculty alike are eager to see which Gold Key works will earn the top national honors, cementing another milestone in the school’s tradition of artistic excellence.
The 2026 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards mark another memorable year for Pine Crest Upper School, celebrating creativity, perseverance, and the emerging voices of America’s young artists.
