Pompano Beach, Florida – Authorities are investigating a deadly crash that claimed the life of a motorcyclist in Pompano Beach on Tuesday afternoon. The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is leading the investigation into the tragic collision between a motorcycle and a semi-truck near the 1900 block of North Powerline Road.

According to detectives, the accident occurred at approximately 3:52 p.m. on March 18. The motorcyclist, identified as 24-year-old Dajuanye Winters, was riding a 2019 Yamaha R3 southbound on North Powerline Road in the far-left thru lane. At the same time, a 2006 International Tractor with a 53-foot trailer, driven by Alexis Rodriguez, was traveling northbound on the same road.

Investigators say Rodriguez attempted to make a left turn at a break in the median to enter a nearby warehouse district. As the semi-truck crossed the southbound lanes, Winters reportedly saw the large vehicle and reacted by aggressively applying his rear brakes. However, despite his efforts to slow down, the Yamaha motorcycle veered into the center-thru lane and crashed into the rear portion of the semi-trailer.

The impact of the collision caused Winters to be thrown from his motorcycle, coming to rest near the crash site. The Yamaha itself slid a short distance before stopping. Emergency services were called immediately, but Winters succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Following the crash, Rodriguez stopped his vehicle and approached the injured motorcyclist. Witnesses at the scene informed him that emergency responders had already been contacted. After checking his semi-truck and seeing no apparent damage, Rodriguez reportedly assumed he had not been involved in the accident and proceeded to a nearby loading dock. While loading his trailer, he later noticed chipped paint that matched the color of the Yamaha motorcycle, raising concerns about his involvement.

BSO deputies contacted Rodriguez, who cooperated fully with investigators. Authorities continue to gather evidence and witness statements as they work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

Officials urge all motorists, especially those operating large commercial vehicles and motorcycles, to remain vigilant and exercise caution when making turns or maneuvering in high-traffic areas. This tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety and awareness.
