Davie, Florida – The Town of Davie is saddling up for something colorful and creative. On Saturday, May 3, 2025, residents and visitors will gather at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds to witness the grand reveal of two beautifully painted horse statues during the much-anticipated Touch-a-Truck event. The unveiling is set to take place at 10 a.m., marking the debut of a unique public art initiative that blends local culture, creativity, and community pride.

The life-sized fiberglass horses, painted by South Florida artists Lynda DeVita and Elyssa Helfman, are the first pieces to emerge from the town’s Painted Horses Public Art Project. Commissioned under the guidance of the Public Art Advisory Committee, this project is part of Davie’s broader Public Art Master Plan, launched in July 2024. The initiative was designed to celebrate the town’s heritage, specifically its deep equestrian roots and historical cultures.

“The Town of Davie is excited to unveil two Painted Horse statues at the Touch-a-Truck event,” officials announced ahead of the big day. Following the unveiling, both statues will be relocated to one of the town’s public parks or municipal facilities, where they’ll remain on permanent display. The town hopes these vibrant works will bring art into everyday community life and serve as lasting symbols of Davie’s character and identity.

In total, the Painted Horses project will feature ten horse statues, all to be painted by local artists. Each piece will reflect the overarching theme of “Historical Cultures of Davie.” The first two designs, chosen through an Open Call to Artists, have now been completed and approved. The remaining eight are expected to roll out over time, gradually transforming public spaces across the town into open-air galleries that pay tribute to Davie’s unique past.

The selection process for these public artworks aims to ensure diverse representation, giving voice to the town’s history through varied artistic styles and personal expression. In doing so, the town not only honors its cultural legacy but also supports and showcases the talent of local artists.

The setting for the big reveal—Touch-a-Truck—is one of Davie’s most popular family events. Held at the iconic Bergeron Rodeo Grounds at 4201 Rodeo Way, the event allows children to explore, climb, and learn about a wide array of trucks, construction vehicles, emergency response units, and more. This year, the addition of the Painted Horse unveiling adds a creative twist to the beloved community gathering.

Residents are encouraged to attend, take photos, and get to know the artists behind the work. After the unveiling, the Town of Davie will announce the permanent locations of the statues, giving art lovers and residents the chance to visit and appreciate the pieces again and again.

As Davie continues to grow, it’s clear the town is placing value not just on infrastructure and services, but on cultural enrichment, too. Projects like these help make Davie not just a place to live—but a place to connect, to create, and to celebrate.
