West Park, Florida – A late-night crash over the weekend in West Park has left one man dead, and investigators are now trying to piece together what led to the unusual and tragic accident.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO), the incident took place at approximately 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, June 21. Deputies and emergency personnel from Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue rushed to the scene after receiving reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the 5600 block of Southwest 19th Street.

Preliminary findings from the BSO Traffic Homicide Unit indicate that the victim, whose identity has not yet been released, had been walking east along the residential street earlier that evening. For reasons that remain unknown, investigators say the man then laid down partially in a driveway of a nearby home and remained in that position for several hours.

Tragically, at some point later that night, a 2025 Honda CR-V turned into the driveway where the man was lying. The vehicle’s passenger side undercarriage struck the victim. Authorities confirmed that the driver, who had not seen the person in the driveway, immediately stopped and called for help after realizing what had happened.

Emergency responders transported the victim to Memorial Regional Hospital. Despite their efforts, he was later pronounced dead.

Detectives have not released any further details about the circumstances that led the man to lie down in the driveway, nor whether any charges are expected to be filed in the case. The investigation is ongoing.

“The victim remained there for several hours before being struck by the passenger side undercarriage of a 2025 Honda CR-V,” investigators said. “Following the collision, the driver immediately stopped and notified emergency services.”

As the community mourns the loss of life, officials are reminding residents to remain vigilant, especially during evening hours, and to report any unusual behavior that might prevent similar tragedies.
