Tallahassee, Florida – The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is set to hold two in-person customer service hearings for the customers of Peoples Gas System, Inc. (PGS) this month. These hearings, scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, and Thursday, July 17, 2025, will provide PGS customers an opportunity to voice their opinions on a rate increase petition filed by the company in March.

The rate increase petition submitted by PGS has drawn attention from both the public and the Commission, as it impacts nearly half a million customers across Florida. The customer service hearings serve as a platform for the public to present their comments regarding PGS’s request, its quality of service, and any concerns they may have. The PSC will take these public comments into account when making its final decision on the proposed rate adjustment.

These sessions offer an invaluable opportunity for customers to directly engage with the Commission.

PGS is a local natural gas distribution company that provides both sales and transportation delivery services to its customers. As a wholly owned subsidiary of TECO Gas Operations, Inc., Peoples Gas serves around 470,000 customers in 39 counties across Florida. The company provides essential services to residential, commercial, industrial, and electric power generation clients. The rate increase request is an important step in the company’s operations, and the feedback from these hearings will help shape the outcome of the decision.

The public’s input is a critical component of the PSC’s review process, ensuring that the voices of Florida residents are heard before any final decisions are made regarding changes to the rates customers pay for their natural gas services. These hearings provide transparency and allow customers the opportunity to ensure their concerns are represented.

For more information on the hearings or to submit comments ahead of time, customers are encouraged to visit the PSC website or contact the PSC directly.

The outcome of these hearings could have significant implications for both Peoples Gas customers and the future of utility rate structures in Florida.
