Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives unveil new details in tragic fatal hit-and-run incident in Pompano Beach

Pompano Beach, Florida – The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) Traffic Homicide Unit has released new details in the investigation of a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred in Pompano Beach early Tuesday morning, July 8. The incident, which left a man dead, is under ongoing investigation as authorities continue to seek the driver responsible for the tragic accident.

The crash took place just before 1:00 a.m. on North Powerline Road, near the 600 block, when an adult male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the southbound lanes. According to initial reports, the pedestrian was reportedly standing in the roadway when the vehicle, believed to be a silver or gray full-size truck, hit him. Following the collision, the driver fled the scene, leaving the pedestrian severely injured.

Despite swift responses from both BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue personnel, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The circumstances surrounding the crash, including the vehicle’s make and model, remain unclear, but detectives are narrowing down their search based on new evidence.

Detectives have released a still image of the vehicle they believe was involved in the crash, urging the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the identification of the driver. According to BSO Detective Carlos De Jesus, “The investigation is ongoing, and we are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about the vehicle to come forward.”

The tragic event has prompted the sheriff’s office to seek public help in locating the suspect. Authorities are asking anyone who might have seen the vehicle or who has information about the driver’s identity to contact Detective De Jesus at 954-321-4842. Alternatively, tips can be submitted anonymously through the SaferWatch app or by calling Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).

“We understand the importance of community support in helping solve these cases,” said Detective De Jesus. “We hope that someone will come forward with information that will lead to the identification and apprehension of the person responsible.”

If tipsters wish to remain anonymous, they are encouraged to use Crime Stoppers, which also offers the possibility of a cash reward for useful information that leads to an arrest. Tipsters can also call **TIPS (8477) from any cellphone in the United States to report anonymously.

The fatal hit-and-run has left the local community shaken, and authorities are urging anyone with even the smallest piece of information to come forward to ensure justice for the victim. The investigation continues as detectives work diligently to piece together the events leading up to the crash and hold the responsible driver accountable.
