Lauderdale Lakes, Florida – Lauderdale Lakes officials are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on Tuesday evening, resulting in the death of a local resident. Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) Traffic Homicide Unit detectives are leading the investigation into the incident, which took place in the 3600 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard.

According to BSO, the crash was reported just before 8 p.m. on October 7 when Broward County Regional Communications received a call about a vehicle-pedestrian collision. Deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue quickly responded to the scene to provide assistance and begin the investigation.

The preliminary findings indicate that the pedestrian, Agness Flynn, was crossing West Oakland Park Boulevard from south to north when she entered the path of a 2004 Honda CRV traveling eastbound. The driver, Derrick Myers, attempted to avoid the collision by steering to the left, but despite his efforts, the crash could not be prevented.

Flynn was pronounced deceased at the scene, marking a tragic loss for the Lauderdale Lakes community. The driver, Myers, remained on the scene and cooperated fully with detectives. He was reported to be uninjured in the crash.

Investigators have stated that excessive speed is not believed to be a factor in the incident. The crash appears to be a tragic accident rather than the result of reckless driving. BSO continues to gather evidence and interview witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation to determine all circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

“This is a heartbreaking incident, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim,” a spokesperson for BSO said. The department emphasized the importance of pedestrian safety and urged drivers and pedestrians alike to remain vigilant, especially on busy thoroughfares such as West Oakland Park Boulevard.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has dashcam footage from the area to contact BSO Traffic Homicide Unit to assist with the investigation. These accounts can provide valuable information to help piece together the events leading up to the collision.

The Lauderdale Lakes community has responded with shock and sadness to the incident, highlighting the risks that pedestrians face even in areas with high visibility. Residents are reminded to use crosswalks where available and to exercise caution when navigating streets, particularly during evening hours when visibility can be reduced.

BSO detectives are continuing to work diligently to complete their investigation and provide answers to the family and the community. No further details have been released at this time, and officials ask the public to respect the ongoing inquiry while remaining alert on roadways to prevent similar tragedies.

This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the need for heightened awareness and safety for both drivers and pedestrians in Lauderdale Lakes and across Broward County.
