Broward County, Florida – Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit have arrested a suspect in connection with a violent incident that left a local man with permanent injuries. The arrest comes nearly two weeks after a shocking attack outside an Aldi grocery store in the area.

According to authorities, tips from the public, spurred by media coverage and relayed through Broward County Crime Stoppers, helped detectives identify the suspect as Dandrea Johnson. Following the investigation, Johnson was taken into custody on a charge of felony battery with great bodily harm, permanent disability, or permanent disfigurement. After his arrest on Wednesday afternoon, he was transported to the Broward County Main Jail.

The incident unfolded on the evening of October 11, shortly after 7:20 p.m., at the Aldi grocery store located at 3301 North State Road 7. Deputies responded to reports of a battery and began an investigation. Surveillance footage from inside and outside the store provided crucial evidence. The video shows Johnson engaging in an argument with the victim inside the store before leaving the premises. Authorities say that the suspect waited outside for the victim to exit the store.

The moment of the attack, captured on video, depicts Johnson delivering a sudden, unprovoked punch to the victim just seconds after he left the store with his dog. The victim fell backward, striking his head on the pavement, and sustained severe injuries that have been described as permanent.

“The investigation revealed that Johnson went outside the store and waited for the victim,” a BSO spokesperson said. “The video shows that seconds after the victim left the store with his dog, the victim sucker punched him. The victim fell backwards and hit his head, sustaining significant and serious injuries.”

Detectives emphasized that the case highlights the critical role that community involvement can play in solving violent crimes. Tips from citizens, combined with careful review of surveillance footage, were essential in locating and apprehending Johnson. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious behavior, noting that these actions can help prevent future violence.

This arrest marks a significant step in the investigation, and law enforcement officials have reiterated their commitment to holding individuals accountable for acts of violence, particularly those that result in long-term harm to victims.
