Pompano Beach, Florida – A quiet Tuesday evening in Pompano Beach was shattered by gunfire, leaving one person dead and another wounded, according to information released by the Broward Sheriff’s Office. The shooting, which took place near the 600 block of West Sample Road, drew a heavy emergency response as deputies and local fire rescue crews rushed to the scene.

Officials said the first reports of the incident came in around 7:30 p.m., prompting deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue to head to the area. When first responders arrived, they found a shooting victim lying near the roadway. The individual, who has not yet been identified, was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite those efforts, authorities said the victim later died.

As deputies worked to secure the scene and gather early details, they learned that a second person had also been injured. According to the sheriff’s office, this individual had already been taken to a local hospital by someone else before law enforcement arrived. Information about the second victim’s condition has not been released publicly, and investigators have not yet clarified whether the two victims were connected to one another.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office has not shared any details about a possible suspect, motive or circumstances that led to the shooting. Detectives remained in the area into the night, working to collect evidence and speaking with anyone who may have witnessed what happened. The stretch of West Sample Road near the site of the shooting temporarily saw increased patrol activity as investigators worked to piece together the timeline.

Authorities say the case remains active. “The investigation is ongoing,” the sheriff’s office said, noting that additional information will be released as detectives learn more.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information to come forward as detectives continue efforts to determine how the shooting began and who may be responsible.
