Fort Lauderdale, Florida – CareerSource Broward (CSBD) is calling on employers across Broward County to get involved in its 2026 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), a workforce initiative designed to connect young people with real-world job experience while supporting businesses in developing future talent. The eight-week program, set to run from June 8 to August 4, 2026, provides youth with paid work opportunities, while CSBD covers wages and program costs, making it an attractive option for local employers. Registration for worksites is now open at www.careersourcebroward.com/syep.

“SYEP provides a meaningful first step into the workforce by combining real-world work experience with foundational employability training,” said Carol Hylton, President and CEO of CareerSource Broward. “When employers open their doors to young people, they help build confidence, strengthen skills, and introduce career pathways that can change a youth’s future. We welcome Broward County employers to participate and make a direct impact on our future workforce.”

The program targets motivated youth ages 16 to 18, offering them the chance to earn $14 per hour while working up to 30 hours per week. Participants are placed at a variety of worksites throughout Broward County, including government offices, community organizations, and private businesses. Each worksite provides supervision, mentorship, and hands-on experience, giving students the chance to develop critical workplace skills and explore potential career paths.

Prior to beginning their assignments, youth take part in a three-day employability skills training program. This preparatory training focuses on job readiness, professionalism, communication, and workplace expectations, equipping students with the knowledge and confidence to contribute effectively from day one. The combination of training and on-the-job experience is designed to ensure that participants leave the program better prepared for future employment opportunities.

For employers, participation in SYEP offers more than just a chance to give back to the community. Hosting a youth participant can strengthen workplace culture, introduce fresh ideas and energy, and help businesses identify potential long-term talent. The program also aligns with broader community goals of workforce development and career readiness, providing a tangible way for businesses to play a role in shaping the next generation of professionals.

CSBD encourages local employers to consider participating in the 2026 program and highlights the ease of joining. “It’s a win-win for both businesses and youth,” said Hylton. “Employers gain motivated workers ready to contribute, while students receive valuable guidance and practical experience that can shape their career trajectory.”

As the summer approaches, CareerSource Broward hopes to secure a strong network of participating employers, ensuring that youth across the county have meaningful and enriching opportunities to launch their careers.

By providing a structured, paid work experience combined with foundational training, SYEP continues to serve as a bridge between education and employment, preparing Broward County youth to enter the workforce with confidence and skill, while simultaneously supporting local businesses in meeting staffing needs and fostering community engagement.
