Girl Scout cookie season officially returns to Southeast Florida with hundreds of thousands of boxes ready for sale

Deerfield Beach, Florida – The smell of freshly baked cookies isn’t the only thing filling the air in Southeast Florida this week as Girl Scout cookie season officially returns. In Deerfield Beach, a warehouse has been transformed into a bustling cookie distribution hub, with volunteers and scouts preparing to get millions of boxes into the hands of eager buyers. This year, the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida are distributing approximately 600,000 boxes, with car lines already stretching for more than a mile.

While the cookies themselves are a perennial favorite, leaders emphasize that the program is about more than just sweet treats. The Girl Scout cookie program is designed to teach girls real-world skills, from goal setting and money management to teamwork and communication. Many scouts say selling cookies helps them gain confidence and learn how to work together effectively.

“I’ve learned about friendship and teamwork and I learned a lot of skills like archery and canoeing,” said Parker Nwaobi, a Girl Scout who has participated in the program for several years. Her comments highlight the way the program blends fun activities with important life lessons.

Some scouts stand out for their impressive sales records. Seven-year-old Raine Mullen, for example, moved nearly 1,900 boxes last year, with strong support from her family. Her parents say that through the cookie program, Raine has grown more confident, independent, and aware of how to handle responsibilities. “It’s not just about the cookies,” they said. “It’s about teaching her life skills and building character.”

This year’s cookie season officially begins on Monday, with each box priced at $6. Fans can expect all the classic favorites, including Thin Mints, Samoas, and Tagalongs, as well as a new flavor called ExploreMores. The Girl Scouts hope that fans old and new will take advantage of the chance to support their local troops while enjoying a beloved tradition.

Beyond teaching business skills, the cookie program helps girls develop self-confidence, communication skills, and leadership abilities. From managing money to connecting with customers, scouts are learning lessons they will carry far beyond cookie season.

As car lines form at distribution centers across Southeast Florida, families and customers alike are reminded that buying Girl Scout cookies isn’t just about indulging in a sweet treat—it’s about supporting the next generation of confident, capable young leaders. The excitement is palpable, and for many scouts, it’s the highlight of the year.
