West Palm Beach, Florida – The City of West Palm Beach is joining forces with United Way Palm Beach County to offer free tax preparation services to residents earning $78,000 or less through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The initiative aims to make tax filing more accessible for families and individuals, ensuring they receive the credits and refunds they are entitled to without the burden of costly preparation fees.

The free tax assistance program will be available at two locations in the city: the Mandel Public Library and the Eva W. Mack Community Hub. Services will run from Monday, January 26, through Wednesday, April 15, providing residents with a variety of days and times to get help. VITA volunteers, trained to assist with federal and state tax returns, will be on hand to answer questions and guide residents through the filing process.

At the Eva W. Mack Community Hub, located at 1540 N. Australian Avenue, volunteers will be available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The center will be closed to VITA services on Monday, February 16, in observance of the Presidents Day holiday.

Meanwhile, the Mandel Public Library, 411 Clematis Street, will host volunteers in the Hibiscus Room on the third floor. Residents can visit on Tuesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Wednesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Thursdays from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The library will not have VITA volunteers available from March 25 through March 28.

Appointments are not required for either location, and services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. This flexibility ensures that residents can access assistance without the need to schedule ahead of time, making it easier for those with busy schedules to receive support.

“VITA offers a crucial service to our community by helping residents navigate their tax filings accurately and efficiently,” city officials said. “This partnership with United Way ensures that residents have access to free, high-quality assistance during tax season, which is especially important for families and individuals who may not otherwise be able to afford professional help.”

The VITA program is part of a nationwide effort to provide free tax preparation for eligible residents, particularly low- to moderate-income households. Volunteers are trained and certified to handle a variety of tax situations, including claiming tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and other deductions that can significantly impact a filer’s refund.

The program reflects the City of West Palm Beach’s ongoing commitment to supporting residents, reducing financial stress, and promoting financial literacy through accessible community resources.

By bringing together municipal resources and the expertise of United Way volunteers, West Palm Beach residents have a convenient, cost-free way to complete their taxes accurately while ensuring they claim the benefits they deserve. The collaboration underscores the value of community partnerships in creating programs that directly improve residents’ financial well-being.
