Miami Dolphins legend Dwight Stephenson teams up with Arc Broward to launch inaugural golf classic supporting disability programs in South Florida
Sunrise, Florida – A new community-focused golf tournament is set to bring sports, fundraising, and local support together in South Florida this summer, as former NFL star Dwight Stephenson teams up with Arc Broward to launch a first-of-its-kind event aimed at expanding services for individuals with disabilities.
The inaugural Dwight Stephenson Arc Broward Golf Classic, presented by Gunther Motor Company, will take place on Friday, June 19 at Boca Lago Golf & Country Club in Boca Raton. The event marks a major new partnership between the nonprofit and the Hall of Fame center, who spent much of his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins.
Organizers say the tournament is not just about golf, but about community impact. All funds raised will directly support Arc Broward’s programs, which focus on helping people with disabilities build skills, independence, and long-term opportunities for growth.
The day will begin early at 7 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast for participants. Golfers will then head out for a shotgun start in a best-ball scramble format, designed to keep play moving while encouraging team participation. After the round, guests will gather for an awards luncheon and silent auction, rounding out a full day of events centered on both competition and charity.
Adding to the atmosphere, TC from KISS Country 99.9 will serve as master of ceremonies, guiding attendees through announcements, awards, and fundraising moments throughout the day.
“This tournament is an exciting opportunity to bring our community together during our 70th anniversary year in support of individuals with disabilities,” said Julie Price, Arc Broward President and CEO. “Every dollar raised helps expand critical programs that empower the people we serve to reach their full potential and live more independent, fulfilling lives.”
Arc Broward leaders say the timing of the event is especially meaningful as the organization marks 70 years of service in South Florida. The nonprofit has long focused on vocational training, education, and life skills development for people with disabilities, helping thousands of individuals access greater independence and community involvement.
The golf classic is also drawing strong support from the business and sports communities. A wide range of sponsors has joined the event, including Gunther Motor Company, Centennial Bank, Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company, Seminole Tribe of Florida, Florida Blue, PNC, Coca-Cola Beverages Florida, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, and several media and hospitality partners.
The involvement of the Miami Dolphins organization further connects the event to South Florida’s sports culture. Stephenson, known for his dominant career as an offensive lineman and later Hall of Fame induction, has remained active in community work since retiring from professional football. His participation adds both visibility and credibility to the tournament’s mission.
Registration is open to both individual players and corporate teams. Entry fees are set at $325 per golfer or $1,500 for a corporate foursome. Each registration includes green and cart fees, a player gift pack, a branded golf shirt, breakfast, food and beverages on the course, and access to the awards luncheon following play.
Organizers expect strong participation from local businesses, nonprofits, and sports fans, many of whom see the event as both a networking opportunity and a chance to contribute to a meaningful cause.
Beyond the competition itself, the tournament is designed to highlight the broader mission of Arc Broward. By combining sport with philanthropy, organizers hope to raise both funds and awareness for services that often operate behind the scenes but have a major impact on families across the region.
As South Florida continues to grow, events like this are becoming an important part of how communities connect and support one another. The Dwight Stephenson Arc Broward Golf Classic aims to set the tone for future collaborations between athletes, businesses, and nonprofit organizations.
With strong sponsorship support, a well-known sports figure at the center, and a clear charitable mission, the inaugural event is expected to become a significant addition to the region’s annual fundraising calendar, blending golf with a cause that reaches far beyond the course.
