Pompano Beach, Florida – Pompano Beach drivers who use Copans Road should prepare for a stretch of overnight construction as Broward County moves ahead with minor stormwater drainage repairs along a busy part of the roadway.

The work is scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 26, and continue into July 2026, as long as weather or unexpected conditions do not affect the timeline. The repair area runs on Copans Road from NW 18th Terrace to west of the CSX Railroad tracks in Pompano Beach, where county crews will focus on improving drainage infrastructure.

The project will be handled by Broward County’s Public Works and Environmental Services’ Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division. The work is funded through gas tax dollars and is described by the county as necessary drainage work aimed at maintaining stormwater systems in the area.

To reduce disruptions during the day, crews will work overnight from Sunday through Thursday, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. A traffic officer will be on-site while work is underway. Even with construction taking place, at least one travel lane in each direction will remain open, allowing traffic to continue moving through the corridor.

County officials said access to driveways and sidewalks will also be maintained throughout the project. That means residents, businesses, pedestrians and drivers should still be able to reach nearby properties while the drainage repairs are being completed.

The project area crosses several Broward County Commission districts. The eastbound lanes fall within District 8 and District 4, represented by Vice Mayor Robert McKinzie and Commissioner Lamar P. Fisher, respectively. The westbound lanes are within District 2, represented by Mayor Mark D. Bogen.

While the work is considered minor, drainage repairs often play an important role in keeping roads safer and more reliable, especially in areas where heavy rain can place extra pressure on stormwater systems. By scheduling the repairs overnight, the county is aiming to complete the job while limiting the effect on daily travel.

Residents and drivers with questions can contact the Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division at 954-357-6040. Project Manager Erick Pena-Tabora can also be reached at 786-296-7102 or by email at [email protected].

Broward County appreciates your patience as we complete this necessary drainage work.
