Fort Lauderdale, Florida – A water main break disrupted a busy stretch of Fort Lauderdale Beach over the weekend, leaving residents, hotel guests, and business owners dealing with unexpected service interruptions along East Las Olas Boulevard.

The incident began on Saturday and continued into Sunday, affecting a popular area known for tourism, dining, and waterfront activity in Fort Lauderdale. Officials confirmed that the break caused widespread water service disruptions across nearby residences, hotels, and commercial establishments, forcing some to adjust operations on the fly.

At the Hall of Fame Marina, the impact was immediately noticeable. Norm Boily described how the lack of water created practical problems for boaters and facilities in the area.

“Without water, you can’t use the facilities and the boaters can’t wash their boats,” Boily said.

The disruption also affected visitors who had come to the beach area expecting a smooth weekend experience. East Las Olas Boulevard, especially near Seabreeze Boulevard, saw temporary traffic changes as authorities responded to the situation. Fort Lauderdale Police Department officers closed eastbound lanes in the affected section to allow crews to work safely and manage the flow of vehicles around the repair zone.

For some travelers, the timing could not have been worse. DeAngelo Hawkins, who arrived with his family from Tampa after a long drive, said the situation quickly turned into an unexpected delay that added stress to their trip.

“It was pretty stressful after driving four-and-a-half hours,” Hawkins said.

City officials reported that the break involved a 12-inch water main, requiring significant repair work. Crews from the city along with Southern Underground Industries were on site, working to fix the damaged pipe and restore service as quickly as possible. According to updates, the repairs also affected surrounding asphalt and landscaping, adding to the complexity of the cleanup and restoration process.

Despite the disruption, workers continued efforts through the weekend to stabilize the system and return water service to affected properties. The area, usually filled with tourists and steady traffic, saw a quieter but more congested scene as crews, vehicles, and temporary barriers occupied parts of the roadway.

By Sunday, repair work was still underway, with officials monitoring the situation closely. While no long-term structural damage to the area was immediately reported, residents and business owners were left waiting for full restoration of normal conditions along one of Fort Lauderdale’s busiest coastal corridors.
