Artists invited to apply for BFA Art Walls Mural Fest 2027
Broward County, Florida – Artists and cultural organizations now have a chance to become part of a growing public art tradition in Broward County, as applications officially open for the 2nd Annual BFA Art Walls Mural Fest, set for March 13–14, 2027 at Huizenga Park in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
Following a successful first edition, organizers are bringing the festival back with an expanded focus on creativity, collaboration, and community storytelling through large-scale mural art. The event is presented by Wayne and Lucretia Weiner and is expected to once again transform the park into an open-air gallery filled with live painting, public interaction, and cultural exchange.
Applications are now being accepted from two groups: mural artists and arts and cultural nonprofits. Both are invited to take part in a project that blends visual storytelling with community engagement. The deadline to apply is July 31, 2026.
Selected muralists will be given the opportunity to create live 8-foot by 8-foot pop-up murals during the two-day festival. These works will be completed on-site in front of festival visitors, allowing the public to witness each stage of the artistic process in real time. Organizers say this live creation element is one of the core features of the event, designed to make art more accessible and interactive.
Each participating artist will also be paired with a local arts or cultural nonprofit. The murals they create will be inspired by the mission and identity of the partnered organization, blending personal artistic style with community-based storytelling. Once the festival concludes, the completed mural will be given to the nonprofit, where it will remain as a permanent piece of artwork.
Organizers say this structure helps extend the life of the artwork beyond the festival itself, turning a temporary public installation into a lasting contribution for the community. It also creates a direct connection between artists and organizations working in Broward County’s cultural landscape.
“APPLY NOW as a Muralist” is open to artists who want to showcase their work in a public, high-visibility setting while collaborating on meaningful community projects. The festival encourages participation from muralists who are interested in live creation and public engagement, rather than traditional gallery displays.

At the same time, “APPLY NOW as a Nonprofit” invites arts and cultural organizations to take part in shaping how their missions are visually represented. Through collaboration with muralists, nonprofits will have the chance to share their stories with thousands of visitors during the festival weekend.
The partnership is designed to help organizations reach new audiences while reinforcing the role of arts and culture in the broader Broward County community. By the end of the event, each nonprofit will receive its completed mural, creating a lasting reminder of the collaboration.
With applications open well ahead of the 2027 festival, organizers are encouraging early submissions from both artists and organizations interested in participating in this evolving public art initiative.
