Nova Southeastern University announces Dr. Chad Perlyn as the next dean of the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Dr. Chad Perlyn, a well-respected medical professional and executive leader, has been appointed as the new dean of the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University (NSU). Dr. Perlyn, who has been serving as NSU’s chief medical officer, executive vice president, and executive medical director for NSU Health, is stepping into this pivotal role with a commitment to enhancing the college’s reputation and advancing its mission of producing highly skilled medical professionals.
“I’m looking forward to working with the team at the college and playing a valuable role in developing a world-class network with our colleagues across the NSU health care portfolio and the community,” Dr. Perlyn stated upon his appointment. His enthusiasm for collaborating with other academic health care disciplines and furthering NSU’s health care initiatives marks a promising start to his tenure as dean.
Established in 2017, the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine is the eighth medical school in Florida. It is part of NSU’s expansive health care division, which also includes two medical schools—the College of Allopathic Medicine (M.D.) and the College of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.)—along with schools of dental medicine, health care sciences, nursing, psychology, optometry, and pharmacy. As the dean, Dr. Perlyn will oversee the development of the college’s curriculum and play a central role in fostering collaborations between NSU’s various health care programs.
In his new role, Dr. Perlyn’s responsibilities will extend beyond just academic leadership. He will work to ensure the continued integration of education, research, and patient care, which are key tenets of NSU Health’s overarching mission. One of his top priorities is to facilitate cutting-edge research that leads to breakthroughs in medical science, ultimately improving patient care and health care outcomes. Under his leadership, the university is expected to continue enriching the healthcare workforce, producing professionals who are not only highly skilled but also compassionate and dedicated to improving the health of the communities they serve.
Dr. Perlyn’s extensive experience in both the medical and executive fields positions him to lead the college toward greater success. He joined NSU in December 2024, bringing with him a wealth of expertise in health care administration and patient care. Prior to his time at NSU, he served as the senior vice president of surgical services, community health, and corporate responsibility at Nicklaus Children’s Health System in Miami, where he played an instrumental role in advancing the health system’s goals.
Dr. Perlyn’s background is both diverse and impressive. He earned his M.D. from the University of Miami, where he also completed his surgical training at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He further honed his expertise by obtaining a doctorate in craniofacial molecular biology at the University of Oxford, supported by a fellowship from the American College of Surgeons. His academic journey also includes a master’s degree in business administration with a focus on health care education from the University of Miami’s Herbert Business School, as well as an undergraduate degree in English literature from Northwestern University.
“I’ve had a blessed career, thus far as a physician, as a scientist, and a health care executive,” said Dr. Perlyn. “When Dr. Moon asked me if I would like to be involved with NSU and its mission to improve patient outcomes now and into the future on a global stage, the answer was a resounding yes.” This passion for improving global health outcomes is what drives Dr. Perlyn’s vision for the future of NSU’s medical programs.
NSU President and CEO Harry K. Moon, M.D., expressed his full confidence in Dr. Perlyn’s ability to lead the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine. “I have the utmost respect and confidence in Dr. Perlyn to continue NSU Health’s leadership in cutting-edge and collaborative health care education, research, and clinical practices in a world where such excellence and workforce preparedness is desperately needed,” Dr. Moon said. This endorsement from Dr. Moon reflects the trust and high expectations the NSU community has for Dr. Perlyn’s leadership.
Nova Southeastern University itself is a major player in higher education and health care. As the largest private research university in Florida, NSU offers a wide range of programs, from bachelor’s degrees to professional and doctoral programs. The university is classified as an R1 institution by the Carnegie Foundation, which recognizes it as one of the nation’s top research universities. In addition to being the largest educator of physicians in Florida, NSU is one of only three universities in the United States with both M.D. and D.O. medical schools.
With over 22,000 enrolled students from more than 115 countries and all 50 U.S. states, NSU is a significant educational institution that not only focuses on academic excellence but also strives to make a positive impact on global health. The university’s research efforts span a range of critical areas, including cancer research, marine life conservation, and brain health, all of which are crucial for advancing health care practices and outcomes worldwide.
The appointment of Dr. Chad Perlyn as dean of the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine is seen as a major milestone for NSU, further solidifying the university’s commitment to providing high-quality medical education and fostering innovation in the field of health care. As the university looks toward the future, Dr. Perlyn’s leadership will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of medical professionals and continuing NSU’s tradition of excellence in health care education and research.
