Florida – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has officially appointed District 4 Secretary, Steven C. Braun, P.E., to serve on the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) Governing Board. This appointment, which takes effect on March 28, 2025, highlights Braun’s extensive expertise in transportation planning and infrastructure development.

Steven Braun, a registered Professional Engineer and a Certified Public Manager, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His career in transportation has spanned multiple decades, beginning with his early work in Roadway Design, which laid the groundwork for his deep technical knowledge. Over the years, he has taken on increasingly significant roles within FDOT, including serving as Planning & Environmental Administrator, District Design Engineer, and Director of Transportation Development. Through these positions, he has played a crucial role in shaping major infrastructure projects in Florida.

More recently, he has contributed to the Broward Commuter Rail studies and the SW 10th Street Connector project. His involvement in these efforts has demonstrated his ability to drive key transportation developments that benefit both commuters and local communities.

As the Secretary for District 4, Braun currently oversees nearly 700 FDOT employees responsible for implementing a $5.6 billion multi-modal transportation work program. The SFRTA plays a crucial role in overseeing regional transit services, including the Tri-Rail commuter rail system, which serves thousands of passengers daily. Braun’s experience in planning and environmental oversight, coupled with his extensive knowledge of Florida’s transportation infrastructure, makes him an ideal candidate to help guide the authority’s future initiatives.

Originally from South Africa, Braun moved to South Florida, where he has spent most of his life. A graduate of Clemson University, he began his career with FDOT in 1994 as a Professional Engineer Trainee. He has since built a distinguished career, earning recognition for his leadership and contributions to the state’s transportation sector. Beyond his professional achievements, Braun is a dedicated family man, raising three children with his wife, Terri, in Broward County.

As he takes on his new responsibilities with the SFRTA Governing Board, Braun is expected to bring his expertise, vision, and leadership to help improve public transportation services in South Florida. His appointment marks a significant step toward strengthening regional transportation systems, ensuring they remain efficient, sustainable, and responsive to the needs of the growing population.
