City of Pompano Beach earns 13th clean audit in a row with zero findings demonstrating years of strong financial leadership

Pompano Beach, Florida – The City of Pompano Beach has once again proven its dedication to responsible financial management, receiving a clean audit report for the 13th consecutive year. This milestone, achieved after a thorough review by an independent external auditor, underscores the city’s unwavering commitment to fiscal responsibility, transparency, and public trust.

The clean audit opinion—formally referred to as an “unmodified opinion”—is the highest level of assurance an auditor can provide, indicating that the city’s financial statements are free from material misstatements and accurately reflect its financial position. The audit focused on the city’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), a critical document that provides a detailed and transparent view of the city’s financial performance and condition.

“This achievement is a testament to the City’s strong leadership, sound financial management, and the dedicated work of our Finance Department,” said Mayor Rex Hardin. “We are proud to maintain this exceptional record of financial integrity and public trust.”

An unmodified audit opinion is more than just an accolade—it is a symbol of the city’s robust internal controls, sound accounting practices, and diligent oversight. It also serves as a crucial resource for external entities such as credit rating agencies, investors, and grantor organizations who rely heavily on the ACFR when making decisions involving the city. According to officials, a clean audit can play a significant role in securing favorable bond ratings, attracting investments, and successfully applying for state and federal grants.

What makes this 13-year streak even more impressive is that the audit also includes a review of how the city handles federal and state grant funds. Pompano Beach once again had no findings or concerns related to the use of these funds, reinforcing the city’s reputation for compliance and accountability in all aspects of its financial operations.

This consistent performance places Pompano Beach in a select group of municipalities across the country with a long-standing record of audit excellence. While many local governments strive for clean audits, maintaining such a flawless track record year after year is a rare and commendable achievement.

“This ongoing success story reflects the city’s culture of fiscal discipline and its deep commitment to being stewards of public resources,” said a city spokesperson. “It assures residents and businesses alike that their local government operates with integrity and responsibility.”

City leaders point to several factors contributing to this financial success: a knowledgeable and dedicated Finance Department, clear policies and procedures, ongoing training, and a commitment to innovation and improvement in financial practices. Together, these elements help ensure the city not only meets but exceeds standards for public financial reporting.

The news also comes at a time when cities across the country face growing scrutiny and challenges in managing public funds. In this climate, Pompano Beach’s consistent clean audits offer a model of stability and good governance.

Looking ahead, city officials say they plan to continue prioritizing transparency and accountability in all financial matters, ensuring that public funds are handled with care and that the community remains well-informed about how resources are managed.

As the city celebrates this important milestone, the message is clear: Pompano Beach is not just maintaining its finances—it is leading by example.
