Oakland Park, Florida – A significant traffic change is coming to the northwest Fort Lauderdale area as construction work begins on a new phase of the Prospect Lake Clean Water Center Water Main Project. Starting Thursday, May 1, 2025, drivers traveling through NW 21st Avenue near the intersection with Prospect Road will face lane closures and detours as crews install a large new water main.

The project, managed by David Mancini and Sons, Inc., will enter Phase 6 of construction with the installation of a 48-inch water main. To complete the work safely and efficiently, the northbound lanes of NW 21st Avenue will be closed at Prospect Road for an estimated two-week period.

This infrastructure upgrade is a critical part of the ongoing effort to improve the area’s clean water supply and increase capacity for future demands. However, officials are urging commuters to plan ahead and use caution when navigating the area during the closure.

To help keep traffic flowing, several detour routes will be in place:

• Northbound drivers should turn left onto Prospect Road, then right onto Commercial Boulevard.
• Westbound traffic will be directed to continue west along Prospect Road before turning right onto Commercial Boulevard.
• Eastbound traffic can follow Prospect Road east and make a left onto Powerline Road.

“Thank you for your patience and cooperation!” reads a statement from the construction team, recognizing the inconvenience but stressing the long-term benefits of the project.

Residents and local businesses in the area are encouraged to follow posted signage and allow extra time for travel while the closure is in effect. Officials also advise checking for updates in case weather or unforeseen issues impact the construction schedule.

While temporary, the road closure represents another step forward in enhancing essential infrastructure and providing reliable, clean water access to the community.
