Fort Lauderdale, Florida – The Slow Burn Theatre Company is set to dazzle audiences with its sizzling summer production of The Bodyguard The Musical, running from Saturday, June 7 to Sunday, June 22 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. This West End hit, which has captivated audiences globally, will be performed at the Amaturo Theater, supported by American National Bank and Visit Lauderdale.

Adapted from the iconic 1992 film starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, The Bodyguard The Musical brings a thrilling blend of romance, suspense, and powerhouse music to the stage. The story follows former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer, who is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from an obsessive stalker. Both Farmer and Marron expect to be in control of the situation, but what neither anticipates is the undeniable chemistry that leads them to fall in love. This emotionally charged love story, coupled with thrilling suspense, is driven by an unforgettable score, making it a must-see production for theatergoers.

One of the most exciting aspects of this production is the casting of American Idol finalist Ta-Tynisa Wilson as Rachel Marron. Wilson, known for her powerhouse vocals and captivating stage presence, brings the iconic role to life with passion and grace. “The Bodyguard The Musical” is a showcase of Whitney Houston’s greatest hits, including classics such as “Queen of the Night,” “So Emotional,” “I Have Nothing,” and the iconic “I Will Always Love You.” The musical offers audiences a thrilling chance to experience these timeless songs live, in a new and exciting context.

The production has received widespread acclaim, with The Guardian calling it a “music-forward, funny, fast-paced operation” and praising its joyful take on Houston’s catalog. The musical explores themes of love, power, vulnerability, and resilience, while also highlighting the deep bond between the two central characters, who come from vastly different worlds.

The creative team behind this production is a talented and experienced group, led by director Patrick Fitzwater. The design team includes Nikolas Serrano (set design), Clifford Spulock Lighting, LLC (lighting design), Rick Peña (costume design), and Ryan Crout (music direction). The choreography is provided by Reynel Reynaldo, and the production team also includes Jeffry George and Jolie Rubinchik as stage managers, along with Darius J. Manuel as production assistant.

The principal cast, in addition to Wilson as Rachel Marron, includes Gabriell Salgado as Frank Farmer, Lillie Eliza Thomas as Nicki Marron, Timothy Davis as The Stalker, and Jaxon Compas as Fletcher. These talented performers, along with an ensemble of gifted artists, bring depth and emotion to the beloved characters of The Bodyguard. The production also features a talented ensemble cast, including Matthew Korinko, Jerel T. Brown, Michael Materdomini, and several others, all contributing to the dynamic energy of the show.

For those looking for a more accessible experience, Slow Burn Theatre Company will offer an open-captioned performance of The Bodyguard on Sunday, June 15 at 2 p.m. During this performance, spoken dialogue will scroll across a digital screen as the action unfolds on stage, providing an inclusive experience for all audiences.

As part of its commitment to community engagement, Slow Burn Theatre Company is also offering complimentary tickets to students and local community members, underwritten by the Salah Foundation and the Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation. The company’s dedication to making the arts accessible is reflected in its ongoing support from the Broward County Cultural Division and the Cultural Council, among other sponsors.

The musical’s production is presented through special arrangement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide (TRW), and it promises to be a summer sensation. For those seeking a little extra indulgence, Slow Burn Theatre Company is also hosting The Queen’s Bash, a fundraising event taking place on June 7 and June 14 at 5:30 p.m. The bash will feature a themed pre-show meal, entertainment, craft cocktails, and a performance of The Bodyguard The Musical.
