Broward County, Florida – On the morning of Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Blanche Ely High School hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially unveil its brand-new bus loop. The event marked a major milestone in a series of campus improvements funded by the voter-approved SMART Bond program.

The ceremony brought together Broward County School Board members, Broward County Public Schools Superintendent, school leaders, students, teachers, staff, local elected officials, and members of the community to celebrate the occasion. Held at the school’s campus at 1201 N.W. 6th Avenue, the event started at 9 a.m. and signaled not just the completion of a transportation enhancement, but a broader commitment to safety and modernization at the historic high school.

The new bus loop, designed to improve traffic flow and student safety during drop-off and pick-up times, is just one part of approximately $21 million in ongoing improvements at Blanche Ely High. These upgrades include vital projects such as re-roofing older buildings, replacing outdated HVAC systems, and making ADA-compliant accessibility enhancements.

“This isn’t just a new loop for our buses,” one staff member shared. “It’s a symbol of progress, of listening to our students and staff, and of creating a safer, more welcoming environment.”

The SMART Bond program—launched to improve facilities across Broward County Public Schools—continues to bring meaningful change to campuses like Blanche Ely. By directing funds to essential infrastructure projects, the initiative has aimed to ensure that all students can learn in safe, modern, and functional school buildings.

As students, staff, and buses now navigate the campus with improved ease and efficiency, the Blanche Ely community is already seeing the positive impact of these upgrades—and they’re just getting started.
