Broward County, Florida -Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is taking a bold step into the future of education, partnering with Microsoft to bring artificial intelligence (AI) into every classroom and administrative office across the district. In what is being called the largest K–12 adoption of Microsoft 365 Copilot globally, this collaboration promises to revolutionize teaching, learning, and school operations with the power of AI. This groundbreaking move positions BCPS as one of the first to implement AI at such a vast scale, making it a leader in educational innovation.

“This is an innovative model of 21st-century public-private collaboration,” said Broward County School Board Chair Debra Hixon. “We’re not just adopting new tools – we’re building a future where AI helps every student thrive and every educator succeed.” This initiative is more than just an upgrade in technology – it’s an effort to completely transform how education is delivered in the 21st century. With AI tools designed to help both educators and students, BCPS is setting the stage for a future where AI becomes an integral part of the learning experience.

At the heart of the collaboration is Microsoft 365 Copilot, a tool designed to enhance productivity, creativity, and efficiency across the district. BCPS faculty and staff will be the first to use this powerful suite of tools, which include AI-driven applications for lesson planning, student engagement, data analysis, and much more. “This is more than a technology deployment – it is reimagining what is possible in public education,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn. “In strategic collaboration with Microsoft, we are empowering educators, inspiring students through innovative AI applications and building a sustainable model that can be replicated across the country and around the world.”

This historic initiative includes several key components aimed at modernizing every aspect of the district’s operations, from classroom management to administrative functions. Among the most notable aspects of the project is the introduction of AI-powered tools that will assist educators in creating automated lesson plans, rubrics, and instructional content. These tools will free up more of teachers’ time, allowing them to focus on what matters most – engaging with their students.

In addition to classroom efficiencies, the use of AI will enhance productivity for educators and administrators alike. AI will help streamline administrative tasks, such as analyzing attendance, assessment, and demographic data. With real-time insights, administrators can identify trends and resource needs more efficiently, ultimately leading to a more effective and responsive education system. BCPS is also utilizing AI to modernize its facilities and operations, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements throughout the district.

The potential benefits for students are equally as significant. Personalized learning will become more accessible as AI enables individualized learning paths and provides real-time feedback for students. This personalized approach can address the unique learning needs of each student, including offering translation and language support for those who need it. AI will make learning more inclusive, helping every student succeed at their own pace, regardless of language barriers or learning challenges.

“Broward County Public Schools is taking a thoughtful, strategic approach to integrating AI into education,” said Matt Jubelirer, GM, EDU Worldwide Marketing at Microsoft. “We are working together to bring BCPS’ vision to life – with M365 Copilot we are equipping educators with tools to innovate, engaging students in new ways, and driving meaningful outcomes across the district.”

Microsoft’s commitment to the initiative goes beyond just providing technology. The tech giant is also making direct investments in professional development to ensure that BCPS educators, administrators, and staff are well-equipped to make the most of the new AI tools. Through this partnership, Microsoft is mobilizing its partner ecosystem to deliver the necessary training and support to help the district fully harness the power of AI.

The BCPS and Microsoft collaboration marks a critical milestone in the district’s journey toward creating a more innovative, efficient, and inclusive educational environment. As the AI-powered tools roll out, teachers will have more time to focus on what matters most: the students. The district-wide implementation is a giant leap forward in transforming the learning experience, not just in Broward County but across the entire educational landscape. The future of education is here, and BCPS is leading the way.
