Broward County, Florida – Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing an A rating from the Florida Department of Education for the second year in a row. This prestigious recognition was announced on Monday, July 7, 2025, solidifying the district’s commitment to providing quality education and producing outstanding student outcomes. The news comes as part of the state’s annual release of district and individual school grades.

The 2024/25 school year’s performance reflects BCPS’s consistent efforts to raise academic standards and create a supportive environment for both students and educators. In addition to the district’s overall A rating, individual school grades were also released. The results reveal that 96% of BCPS-operated schools either maintained or improved their grades. This achievement reinforces the District’s status as a leader in Florida’s educational landscape.

In total, BCPS earned 110 A grades, 69 B grades, and 34 C grades. Notably, for the second consecutive year, BCPS has no schools rated D or F—a significant feat, considering the Florida Department of Education has been assigning grades to schools since 1999. This consistent performance underscores the district’s ongoing dedication to improving student achievement across all levels.

Impressive Improvements Across Schools

BCPS has seen significant progress, with a marked improvement in the number of A-rated schools. More than half of the district’s schools now hold an A rating, reflecting the growing academic strength of the district. The improvements don’t stop there. Among the five largest school districts in Florida, BCPS is one of only two districts with no D or F-rated schools. This distinction sets the district apart, showcasing its ability to meet the diverse educational needs of its student body.

A particularly notable achievement is the performance of eight schools that earned substantial improvements. These schools improved by two letter grades, jumping from a C grade in the 2023/24 school year to an A grade in 2024/25. These schools include Cypress Elementary School, Deerfield Beach High School, Horizon Elementary School, Liberty Elementary School, North Side Elementary School, Ramblewood Elementary School, Rock Island Elementary School, and Sunland Park Academy.

Furthermore, 26 schools elevated their grade from a B to an A, while 32 schools progressed from a C grade to a B. These improvements have halved the number of C-rated schools in the district, dropping from 70 in the previous year to just 34 in 2024/25. This dramatic reduction demonstrates the district’s ability to foster continuous growth and improvement, further solidifying BCPS’s reputation as a district committed to excellence.

A Collaborative Effort

BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn attributed the district’s success to the hard work and dedication of its teachers, school leaders, and staff members. “This continued achievement not only validates the hard work within BCPS, but it also signals to families, businesses, and the wider community that Broward County offers a top-tier public education system,” Dr. Hepburn said. “This would not have been possible without the support of our School Board and it’s a direct reflection of the unwavering dedication, passion, and excellence demonstrated every day by our MVPs – our exceptional teachers, school leaders, and staff in every corner of our District who help prepare our students to reach their highest potential.”

The collaborative effort between educators, staff, and local stakeholders has played a critical role in creating a thriving learning environment for students in Broward County.

The announcement is a testament to the district’s ability to drive educational success despite challenges. With a focus on continuous improvement and innovation, BCPS has positioned itself as a model for other districts to emulate, proving that with the right resources and dedication, public education can achieve remarkable outcomes.

Looking to the Future

As BCPS continues to build on its success, the district remains focused on providing the best possible educational experiences for its students. The positive impact of this year’s grades will undoubtedly ripple through the community, inspiring families to continue supporting public education and encouraging businesses to invest in Broward County’s future.

“We’ll continue to move forward with a focus on excellence,” said Dr. Hepburn. “Our commitment to fostering a culture of academic achievement and preparing our students for the future will remain at the forefront of everything we do. We are proud of our achievements, but we know that there is always room to grow and improve.”

Broward County Public Schools’ ongoing success highlights the importance of collaboration, dedication, and a shared vision for educational excellence. The district’s A rating is not just a reflection of past accomplishments but a signal of the promising future that lies ahead for Broward’s students, teachers, and communities. With the momentum of this year’s successes, BCPS is poised to continue leading the way in Florida’s educational landscape for years to come.
