Broward Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony stands with public safety unions in vote of no confidence in city manager
Deerfield Beach, Florida – Broward Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony has publicly expressed his support for the members of the city’s public safety unions following their recent vote of no confidence in City Manager Rodney Brimlow. The unions’ action reflects widespread concern over how critical budget negotiations affecting public safety personnel have been handled in Deerfield Beach.
“I stand in solidarity with the members of our public safety unions in their recent letter expressing a vote of no confidence in City Manager Rodney Brimlow,” Dr. Tony said in a statement. “Their collective action reflects deep concerns regarding the handling of critical budget negotiations that directly impact the safety and well-being of Broward Sheriff’s Office personnel and the residents and visitors we serve in Deerfield Beach.”

According to Dr. Tony, the deputies and civilian staff of the Broward Sheriff’s Office face demanding and often hazardous working conditions. The sheriff emphasized that these public servants deserve budgets that acknowledge the intensity of their roles, including salaries that are competitive within the industry. He cited an independent salary study as a benchmark for ensuring that BSO personnel are fairly compensated.
“One of the proposals our team put forth would provide the city with approximately a $900,000 savings,” Dr. Tony said. “Unfortunately, the city manager’s misinformation, false information or incomplete information to the City Commission during this budget process has led to an unacceptable level of uncertainty for BSO staff and the Deerfield Beach community.”
The sheriff called on city leadership to take the concerns of public safety personnel seriously. He stressed the importance of resolving budget disputes in a way that prioritizes transparency, fairness, and the safety of both staff and residents.
“I encourage city leadership to listen to the voices of our public servants and work toward a resolution that prioritizes safety, fairness and transparency,” Dr. Tony said. “My office remains committed to the mission of protecting our community, and I will continue to advocate for the resources and support our personnel need to do their jobs effectively.”
