Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives have successfully identified a man responsible for a recent bike shop burglary that caused significant damage and a loss of cash. The incident took place at Pedrito’s Bike Shop, located at 238 Commercial Blvd in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, on the evening of Thursday, September 18. Authorities reported that the front door of the store had been smashed, and $1,900 in cash was stolen from the register.

BSO detectives first released information about the crime on October 6 in an effort to identify the suspect. Surveillance footage and tips from the public quickly led them to Alex Peter Ivanivic, born November 3, 1960, as the person responsible for the break-in. Ivanivic had already been in custody on unrelated burglary charges, and he now faces additional charges linked to the bike shop incident.

The detectives emphasized that the cooperation of the community played a crucial role in swiftly identifying Ivanivic. “Tips from the public and surveillance video led to quickly identifying the suspect,” authorities said, highlighting the importance of vigilant neighbors and business owners in solving local crimes.

This break-in is part of a broader pattern of retail burglaries in the area, and law enforcement continues to stress the importance of reporting suspicious activity immediately. The case also serves as a reminder for business owners to maintain security measures such as cameras and alarm systems to protect their property.

Ivanivic’s identification marks a significant step forward in the investigation, and additional legal proceedings are expected as the newly filed charges are processed. Broward Sheriff’s Office continues to monitor the situation and encourage the public to remain observant and cooperative with law enforcement efforts.

Pedrito’s Bike Shop, while recovering from the damage and financial loss, expressed relief that the suspect was identified quickly, allowing the business to begin repairs and take steps to prevent future incidents. Authorities say that cases like these underscore the importance of community engagement and prompt reporting to ensure public safety.
