Leadership Broward Foundation hosts SociallyGood networking reception to support Ballplayers Foundation and youth athletics

Fort Lauderdale, ,Florida – Community leaders, nonprofit supporters, and local residents recently gathered in Fort Lauderdale for another installment of a networking event that continues to blend philanthropy with community connection. Organized by the Leadership Broward Foundation, the monthly SociallyGood reception once again brought together professionals and volunteers with a shared goal—supporting charitable organizations that serve people across South Florida.

The latest gathering took place at Batch New Southern Kitchen and Tap, a popular local venue known for hosting community events. While the evening offered an opportunity for networking and conversation, its primary focus was raising funds and awareness for Ballplayers Foundation Inc., an organization dedicated to helping young athletes from underserved communities.

SociallyGood events have become a familiar part of the region’s nonprofit landscape. Each month, the Leadership Broward Foundation partners with local venues and businesses to spotlight a different charitable group. Attendees can meet nonprofit leaders, learn about the challenges facing their communities, and contribute financially to causes that make a tangible difference.

“SociallyGood is about building community, generating awareness for non-profits and raising funds that have a direct impact on those who need it most,” said Andrew Zullo.

For the Ballplayers Foundation, the evening provided an opportunity to share its mission with a broader audience. The organization focuses on creating athletic opportunities for young people who may not otherwise have access to sports programs or resources. Rather than supporting entire teams, the foundation concentrates on helping individual athletes—often those facing financial barriers—by providing equipment, experiences, or other assistance that allows them to participate.

Sports, supporters say, can be more than just a game. For many young people, athletics offer a path toward mentorship, discipline, teamwork, and confidence. Programs like the Ballplayers Foundation aim to ensure that those benefits reach children who might otherwise be left on the sidelines.

Over the years, the SociallyGood initiative has grown into a consistent fundraising platform for nonprofits across Broward County and beyond. According to organizers, more than 100 SociallyGood events have been held so far. What makes the program especially appealing to charities is its commitment to direct impact—every dollar raised during the gatherings is donated to the featured nonprofit.

A wide range of organizations have benefited from the initiative. Past recipients include groups such as YMCA of South Florida, Arc Broward, Broward Education Foundation, Habitat for Humanity Broward, and United Way of Broward County, among many others.

The event model also benefits local businesses that host or sponsor the gatherings. Restaurants, hotels, and other venues often provide space for the networking receptions, gaining exposure to a wide network of community leaders and professionals. In turn, the venues become part of a broader effort to strengthen charitable work in the region.

Unlike some invitation-only functions, SociallyGood events are designed to be accessible. Members of the public are welcome to attend, making it easier for residents to connect with nonprofit organizations and discover ways they can contribute or volunteer.

For nonprofits interested in becoming part of the program, the process begins with an application. Organizations can apply to be selected as a community project for an incoming Leadership Broward class. Applications are accepted between February and September each year, allowing a variety of groups to share their mission with the Leadership Broward network.

As the SociallyGood series continues, organizers hope the events will keep building momentum for local philanthropy. With each reception, a different nonprofit takes the spotlight, and attendees leave not only with new contacts but also a deeper understanding of the work being done to strengthen communities throughout South Florida.

For those interested in attending future events or learning more about the initiative, Leadership Broward encourages residents to follow its upcoming programs and community opportunities throughout the year.
