Fort Lauderdale begins major roadway improvements on NW 15th Avenue to enhance safety and mobility

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – The City of Fort Lauderdale has launched an extensive roadway improvement project along NW 15th Avenue, stretching from West Sunrise Boulevard to Mills Pond Park. The project, carried out in partnership with FG Construction and funded through the Surtax-Funded Municipal Transportation Program, is aimed at enhancing safety, mobility, and overall accessibility for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists in the area.

Construction began on October 27, 2025, and is expected to be completed by late fall 2026. Work takes place Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., though officials caution that the schedule may change due to weather or other unforeseen conditions. To manage the improvements efficiently, the project is being conducted in phases, with partial closures of NW 15th Avenue to ensure the safety of workers and residents.

Traffic and mobility impacts are being carefully managed. Residents and commuters are advised to follow posted signs and drive cautiously in the area as sections of the roadway close in stages. The phased schedule includes work on adjacent streets such as NW 12th Street, NW 13th Court, NW 15th Place, and NW 17th Street. Specific dates for these segments are:

• NW 12th Street: March 2 through March 20, 2026
• NW 13th Court: March 23 through April 3, 2026
• NW 15th Place: April 6 through April 17, 2026
• NW 17th Street: April 20 through April 30, 2026

The scope of improvements on NW 15th Avenue is comprehensive. New crosswalks and ADA-compliant ramps will be installed to increase accessibility for pedestrians with disabilities. Sidewalks will be widened to accommodate safer pedestrian traffic, and raised intersections will be constructed to slow vehicles and improve crossing safety.
