Davie, Florida – The Town of Davie is once again stepping forward in support of a cause that touches countless lives, as its team “Team Horsing Around” prepares to take part in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life on Saturday, April 18, 2026.

The event will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. at Plantation Central Park, located at 9151 NW 2nd Street in Plantation. This year, Davie is not standing alone. The town is joining forces with neighboring communities including Cooper City, Weston, and Plantation, all coming together with a shared mission—supporting cancer survivors, honoring caregivers, and raising funds for cancer research and services.

The evening will open at 5 p.m. with a ceremony featuring performances from local schools, setting a reflective and community-focused tone. At 6 p.m., the official opening ceremonies will follow, including check presentations and a medal ceremony recognizing cancer survivors and caregivers for their strength and resilience.

Throughout the night, the park will be filled with activity. Guests can visit team booths, take part in chance drawings, explore a dedicated kids’ zone, and enjoy food and prizes. The Town of Davie will also be selling pulled chicken and meatball sandwiches, along with chips and drinks, with all proceeds supporting its fundraising efforts.

A meaningful tradition of Relay for Life will once again take center stage when cancer survivors lead the first lap, symbolizing courage and hope. Later in the evening, a survivor dinner will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., offering a moment of connection and appreciation for those who have faced cancer firsthand.

As night falls, the atmosphere will turn more solemn and emotional with the Luminaria Ceremony beginning at 8:30 p.m. This ceremony honors individuals affected by cancer, lighting the way in remembrance and reflection. Community members are encouraged to wear purple throughout the event as a visible sign of support and unity.

For the Town of Davie, this year’s participation also carries a clear fundraising goal of $10,000. With less than $1,100 remaining to reach that target, organizers are hopeful that community participation during the event will help push them over the finish line.

A major part of the fundraising effort will be the chance drawing held at the Town of Davie booth. Two ticket options are available. Golden Tickets are priced at 1 for $10, 6 for $50, and 14 for $100. Prizes include a signed autograph helmet by former Miami Dolphins quarterback Don Strock #10, a signed item from Miami Heat player Tyler Herro #14, a Miami Heat autographed basketball, and a Jason Taylor #99 autographed football.

In addition, Platinum Tickets offer a premium opportunity at 1 for $50 or 3 for $100. These tickets give participants a chance to win a full-day guided fishing trip through the Florida Keys and Everglades National Park, a unique outdoor experience that highlights Florida’s natural beauty.

Supporters who wish to contribute beyond the event can also donate or learn more through the Town’s official Relay for Life page at www.davie-fl.gov/RelayforLife.

Town officials encourage residents, families, and supporters from across the region to attend, participate, and help bring the fundraising goal within reach. Every contribution, whether through donations, ticket purchases, or simply showing up in support, plays a part in the broader mission of fighting cancer and honoring those affected by it.
