Cooper City, Florida – Drivers, pedestrians and residents around Cooper City High School will see a small but important road safety project take shape this summer, as Broward County prepares to improve guardrails near Stirling Road and SW 89th Avenue.

The work is scheduled to begin Monday, June 8, and continue through August 2026, as long as weather or unexpected conditions do not slow the project. County officials planned the timing around Broward County Public Schools’ Summer Recess, a decision meant to reduce disruption near Cooper City High School while students are away from regular classroom traffic.

The project will be carried out by Broward County’s Public Works and Environmental Services’ Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division. The improvements will focus on guardrail safety in the area, helping maintain roadway infrastructure along a busy corridor used by drivers, nearby residents and school-related traffic during the year.

During construction, one westbound lane on Stirling Road will be closed temporarily, but only during off-peak hours. The county said driveway access will remain open for the full length of the project, allowing people who live, work or travel through the area to continue reaching nearby properties.

Pedestrians who are affected by the work zone will be redirected to sidewalks across from the construction area. These detours are intended to keep foot traffic moving safely while crews complete the guardrail upgrades.

The project is located in Broward County District 5, represented by Commissioner Steve Geller. More county information and online services are available through Broward.org.

Residents with questions about the work can contact the Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division at 954-357-6040. Project Manager Erick Pena-Tabora can also be reached at 786-296-7102 or by email at [email protected].

While the construction may bring temporary lane changes and pedestrian detours, county officials framed the work as a necessary investment in public safety and roadway upkeep. Broward County said it appreciates the public’s patience as crews complete the guardrail improvements in Cooper City.
