Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport announces overnight runway maintenance closures

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Travelers passing through Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in the coming days should expect overnight runway closures as scheduled maintenance work takes place on both of the airport’s main runways.

The airport confirmed that routine maintenance will temporarily affect operations during late-night hours, with work carefully planned to minimize disruption to passengers and airlines. Although flights will continue during the day, the overnight schedule will shift runway usage depending on the maintenance phase.

The first phase of work will focus on the North Runway, known as 10L/28R. It will be closed from Monday, June 15 through Wednesday, June 17, between 12:01 a.m. and 5 a.m. each night. During these hours, all arriving and departing aircraft will be redirected to use the South Runway instead, allowing crews to carry out necessary maintenance safely.

Once work on the North Runway is completed, attention will move to the South Runway, identified as 10R/28L. This second phase is scheduled for Thursday, June 18 and Friday, June 19, also from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m. During this period, the airport will reverse operations, with all flight activity shifting to the North Runway.

Airport officials emphasized that these changes are planned during overnight hours when traffic is typically lighter, helping reduce the impact on passengers while still allowing essential upkeep of the airfield. Runway maintenance is considered critical for ensuring long-term safety, efficiency, and smooth operations at one of South Florida’s busiest airports.

Even with the temporary closures, the airport is expected to maintain normal daytime operations throughout the week. Travelers are still advised to check with their airlines for any possible schedule adjustments, especially for early morning or late-night flights that may be affected by the runway shifts.

Officials say the coordinated maintenance plan is part of ongoing efforts to keep airport infrastructure in strong condition while balancing the high volume of daily air traffic moving through Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
