City of West Palm Beach announces distribution of 500 free plastic recycling bins to residents in new sustainability initiative

West Palm Beach, Florida – The City of West Palm Beach is rolling out a new effort aimed at boosting household recycling participation, announcing the distribution of free plastic recycling bins for residents as part of its ongoing environmental initiatives.

Beginning this week, the City’s Public Works Department will make 500 new 35-gallon recycling bins available to residents. The bins are specifically designated for plastic recycling and are being offered on a first-come, first-served basis until supplies run out.

City officials say the program is designed to make recycling easier and more accessible, while also encouraging residents to take a more active role in reducing household waste. The initiative fits into broader sustainability goals that focus on lowering landfill use and improving waste separation practices across the city.

“Providing residents with the tools they need to recycle is a simple but impactful way to support a cleaner, greener West Palm Beach,” said Calvin Williams, Solid Waste Superintendent. “Every household that participates in recycling helps conserve resources, reduce waste, and protect our environment for future generations.”

The message behind the initiative is straightforward: when recycling is easier to do, more people are likely to participate. City leaders hope that by supplying dedicated bins directly to households, they can remove one of the common barriers that prevents consistent recycling behavior.

Each household is eligible to receive one bin, and distribution will continue while supplies last. The city has confirmed that participation is limited to West Palm Beach residents only, reinforcing the focus on local environmental impact and community involvement.

Unlike traditional pickup programs that require separate drop-off or purchase of containers, the bins will be delivered on residents’ regularly scheduled solid waste service day. This approach is intended to keep the process simple and avoid adding extra steps for households already managing weekly waste routines.

Residents who want to take part in the program are encouraged to contact the Public Works Department directly at (561) 822-2075 to request a bin. Because demand is expected to be high, city officials are emphasizing the importance of early requests before the 500-bin supply is exhausted.
