Fort Lauderdale City Commission announces new meeting location at police headquarters beginning August 18

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Fort Lauderdale residents attending City Commission meetings will have a new location beginning Tuesday, August 18, as the city moves its Commission Conference Meetings, Workshops and Regular Meetings to the new Fort Lauderdale Police Department Headquarters.

Starting on that date, all future meetings will take place in the Community Room at the police headquarters at 1300 W. Broward Blvd. The change will apply to the different types of City Commission meetings, giving residents and other visitors a new place to attend public meetings.

City officials are advising visitors to plan ahead because security screening will still be required before entering the Community Room. Residents attending a meeting should allow additional time to get through the screening process.

Parking for visitors will be available through the western driveway at 1350 W. Broward Blvd. The city has also provided a parking map to help residents find the designated public parking area at the new meeting site.

The first meetings scheduled at the new location will all take place Tuesday, August 18. The day’s schedule will begin with a Joint Workshop with the Budget Advisory Board at 11:30 a.m.

A City Commission Conference Meeting will follow at 1 p.m., giving commissioners an opportunity to discuss matters before the evening session. The regular City Commission Meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The move represents an important change for residents who regularly attend Commission meetings, particularly those who are accustomed to the city’s previous meeting location. While the meeting schedule remains in place, visitors will need to adjust to the new address and parking arrangements.

The Community Room at the new police headquarters will serve as the setting for Commission business going forward. Residents who want to attend are encouraged to arrive early enough to account for parking and the required security screening.

The city is also reminding residents that meeting dates and agendas can be checked online. The information is available through the City of Fort Lauderdale’s agenda webpage, allowing residents to review upcoming meetings and their scheduled business before attending.

The August 18 schedule provides several opportunities for residents to participate in local government proceedings throughout the day. The morning workshop, afternoon conference meeting and evening regular meeting will all be held at the new headquarters.
