Tri-Rail to increase fares by 10% beginning October 1, 2026 across South Florida

South Florida – Tri-Rail passengers across South Florida will see higher fares beginning October 1, 2026, when a 10% fare increase takes effect on the regional commuter rail system.

The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority, which operates Tri-Rail, announced the upcoming adjustment following approval by the SFRTA Governing Board. The decision came after a public hearing held on June 26, 2026.

The increase will apply to applicable Tri-Rail fare products, including one-way tickets and passes. Passengers who qualify for discounted fares will continue to receive those discounts under the system’s existing fare policies.

Diane Hernandez Del Calvo, SFRTA Deputy Executive Director, said the change is intended to help maintain Tri-Rail service while addressing the system’s longer-term financial needs.

“Tri-Rail continues to provide an important and affordable transportation option for residents, commuters and visitors traveling throughout the region,” said Diane Hernandez Del Calvo, SFRTA Deputy Executive Director. “This fare adjustment is just one of the components to help sustain service and support the long-term financial sustainability of the system.”

Tri-Rail serves as an alternative to driving for people traveling through South Florida. Its rail network connects communities in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties, giving commuters and other passengers another way to travel across the region.

The system is also connected to major airports and other forms of public transportation. Those connections allow passengers to combine Tri-Rail trips with other transportation services when traveling within South Florida or heading to and from the region’s airports.

While the fare increase will affect applicable tickets and passes, Tri-Rail said discounted fares will remain available to passengers who meet the eligibility requirements. The agency continues to describe the system as an affordable transportation option for residents, commuters and visitors.

The October 1 change means passengers who regularly use Tri-Rail may want to review the updated fare structure before the new prices take effect. The adjustment applies to fares beginning on the specified date, giving riders time to check how the changes may affect their usual trips.
