Man arrested after Pompano Beach shooting leaves one person injured
Pompano Beach, Florida – A 22-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a shooting that injured one person and left bullet holes in neighborhood windows and buildings, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Willie Cheatom III faces charges of shooting into an occupied dwelling and discharging a firearm in public. His arrest came nearly a week after the gunfire was reported near the 200 block of Northwest 31st Avenue.
Deputies said the shooting happened shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday. Responding deputies found one person with a superficial wound. That person was taken to a hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening.

The shooting in the Pompano Beach neighborhood also damaged property. A resident told he was inside his home with his wife when he heard shots. He then saw people running through the area.
For that resident, the damage to a neighbor’s window was particularly troubling because two young children live there. He said the girls regularly play near the window that was hit.

“Our neighbor right here, they got shot in the window. They got two little girls. I mean, they normally play in that specific window,” he said. “I mean, can you imagine… a bullet going through your glass? I mean, it’s kind of like, ridiculous right now.”
His account described the concern caused by gunfire reaching homes where families were spending the evening. Along with the person taken to the hospital, the damaged windows and buildings were among the effects documented after the shooting.
The information provided did not identify the injured person or describe what led to the gunfire. It also did not explain how investigators identified Cheatom as a suspect. The charges against him are allegations.
