Pine Crest student Alaina Jamal earns recognition for three original poems
Pinecrest, Florida – Pine Crest Upper School student Alaina Jamal ’27 has earned recognition for three original poems, expanding the audience for her creative writing beyond the classroom. Her accomplishments include publication in a literary journal, a shortlist placement with an online outlet and selection for a printed anthology of high school poetry.
The school shared the news in an October 15 announcement, celebrating Alaina’s continued commitment to writing. Each recognition involves a different poem, giving three separate pieces of her work a place among the selections of literary publications.

Alaina’s poem “dog years” was published in the summer 2026 issue of Marmalade Lit. The poem’s appearance in the journal is one of two publication achievements highlighted in the school’s announcement.
Another original piece, “月亮” (The Moon), was shortlisted by Marginalia, an online literary publication. That distinction adds a separate form of recognition to her recent accomplishments. The school identified the poem as shortlisted, rather than announcing that it had been published.
The three selections reflect recognition across multiple pieces of Alaina’s writing. With two poems chosen for publication and another making a shortlist, the announcement highlights a range of accomplishments rather than a single accepted submission.

Her third recognized poem, “danyal called danny,” was selected for inclusion in the “Mayflowers 2026” print edition of American High School Poets. The anthology features poetry by high school writers, placing her work in a collection devoted to students’ original writing.
That selection gives Alaina an opportunity to share a poem through a printed collection, alongside the journal publication of “dog years” and the online recognition for “月亮” (The Moon). Together, the three achievements connect her writing with readers and literary outlets outside her school community.
Pine Crest praised Alaina’s dedication to creative writing and her ability to bring her work to broader audiences. The school concluded its announcement by congratulating her on the recognition received by all three poems.
