Broward County, Florida – Students at selected Broward County Public Schools will have access to free menstrual hygiene products through a one-year pilot approved by the School Board on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

The program will place products in designated student restrooms, making essential supplies available during the school day. The district’s goal is to support student wellness and reduce barriers that can interfere with learning and participation.

At least seven schools will be chosen to take part. The selection will represent different grade levels and communities, allowing district staff to evaluate how the initiative works across a range of school settings.

School Board Chair Sarah Leonardi said the program reflects the district’s responsibility to support students’ needs alongside their education.

“This pilot program reflects our commitment to supporting the well-being, dignity and academic success of every student,” said School Board Chair Sarah Leonardi. “By providing access to essential feminine hygiene products during the school day, we are helping ensure students can remain focused on learning and fully participate in their educational experience.”

BCPS will fund the products, dispensers and replenishment supplies throughout the pilot. The announcement did not identify the participating schools or specify a funding amount.

During the year, administrators will track product usage, expenses and the practical requirements of operating the program. District staff will also assess its effectiveness in supporting student wellness and reducing barriers to learning.

Those findings will help inform the School Board’s next steps. At the end of the pilot, the Superintendent will submit a report covering utilization rates, financial impacts and operational considerations.

The report will include recommendations on whether to expand the initiative or adopt it permanently. For now, the approval establishes a one-year program at selected schools, with any broader rollout to be considered after the district reviews the results.
