Pembroke Park, Florida – A tragic case in Pembroke Park has taken another turn as the suspect in a deadly shooting has died, according to Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) Homicide Unit detectives. The man, identified as McKenzie, was pronounced dead at the hospital on March 27 after suffering what authorities believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The violent incident, which unfolded on the evening of March 26, left four people dead and one injured. Julie Cruz and her three sons—Nova McKenzie, Emery McKenzie, and Xion Solomon—were fatally shot inside their home at 3181 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd. Cruz’s daughter, Phiinyx Solomon, was also wounded in the attack but survived.

According to law enforcement, the Pembroke Park Police Department (PPPD) initially responded to a distress call at approximately 7:36 p.m. Officers from PPPD, the Broward Sheriff’s Office, and the Hallandale Beach Police Department arrived at the scene to find a horrifying tragedy. Inside the residence, six people had been shot. Cruz and her three sons were already deceased, while McKenzie and Phiinyx were found alive but critically injured.

The investigation, now led by BSO Homicide Unit detectives, has revealed heartbreaking details about the relationships between those involved. Cruz and McKenzie shared two sons, Nova and Emery, who were among the deceased. Xion Solomon and Phiinyx Solomon, Cruz’s other children, have a different father.

Authorities have not yet provided further details on what may have led to the shooting. As the investigation continues, law enforcement officials are working to piece together the events leading up to this devastating act of violence.
