Pompano Beach, Florida – Residents of Pompano Beach will gather outside City Hall next month for a moment centered on reflection, faith, and community as the city prepares to host its annual National Day of Prayer observance.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 7, at noon and will take place near the American flagpole in front of Pompano Beach City Hall on West Atlantic Boulevard. City officials are encouraging residents, visitors, and neighboring community members to attend and participate in what organizers describe as a unifying occasion open to people of all backgrounds and faith traditions.

Mayor Rex Hardin is expected to lead the gathering, continuing a tradition observed in communities across the country each year on the first Thursday of May. The ceremony will focus on prayer, hope, and collective reflection, offering attendees a chance to pause from daily routines and come together in a shared public setting.

The National Day of Prayer has deep historical roots in the United States. The annual observance was formally established in 1952 after Congress passed a joint resolution that was later signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Since then, cities, churches, civic groups, and organizations nationwide have marked the day through public ceremonies, prayer services, and community events.

In Pompano Beach, officials say the annual gathering is intended to strengthen community bonds while encouraging compassion and unity during uncertain times. While the observance is rooted in faith, organizers emphasize that the event welcomes people from diverse spiritual backgrounds and traditions.

The location outside City Hall has become a symbolic gathering place for the occasion, bringing together residents in a visible expression of community connection and civic spirit. Participants are expected to gather beneath the American flag shortly before noon for the ceremony led by city leadership.

City representatives noted that the event reflects values that extend beyond religion alone, highlighting resilience, understanding, and support among neighbors. In many communities, National Day of Prayer events serve not only as spiritual observances but also as reminders of the importance of civic unity and shared purpose.

For some attendees, the annual event has become a meaningful personal tradition. Others attend as a way to connect with fellow residents and show support for the broader community. Organizers hope this year’s gathering will once again provide a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere for all who participate.

As preparations continue for the May 7 observance, city officials are encouraging community members to attend and take part in the longstanding national tradition. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

In a time often shaped by division and fast-moving daily pressures, local leaders say the National Day of Prayer offers a rare opportunity for people to stand together quietly, reflect collectively, and focus on hope, compassion, and unity within the community.
