Holiday Drive water main extension project in Fort Lauderdale set to improve water pressure and fire safety infrastructure along A1A corridor

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – A short but important infrastructure project is scheduled to begin in Fort Lauderdale this summer, as city crews prepare to carry out a water main extension along Holiday Drive east of A1A/Seabreeze Boulevard. The work is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the local water distribution system and improve service reliability for nearby properties.

According to project details, the City of Fort Lauderdale will connect a new segment of water main into the existing distribution network. The upgrade is designed to help ensure that surrounding buildings maintain adequate water pressure, especially for fire suppression systems that depend on steady and reliable flow. In addition to the new connection work, crews will also restore asphalt surfaces once construction activities are completed in each section.

The construction is scheduled to start on Monday, July 6, 2026, and is expected to wrap up by Friday, July 10, 2026. Work will take place during overnight hours, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., in an effort to reduce daytime disruption in the busy coastal area. However, officials note that the schedule could shift depending on weather conditions or other unexpected challenges that may arise during the project.

Residents and businesses in the area should expect several temporary impacts while the work is underway. Intermittent noise will be unavoidable due to the use of heavy machinery, backup alarms, and construction equipment operating through the night. City officials also warn that dust may be present around the active work zones, as digging will be required to access underground utilities and install the new water main connection.

To ensure safety and visibility during nighttime operations, temporary lighting will be installed around the construction area. While necessary for workers, these lights may be noticeable to nearby residents during overnight hours.

Traffic conditions on Holiday Drive will also be affected throughout the project. The roadway will remain open only to local traffic, with access controlled by traffic management personnel stationed in the area. Drivers are being urged to follow posted signs carefully and to use extra caution when traveling near the construction zone, especially during overnight hours when activity will be at its peak.
