Fort Lauderdale, Florida – A late-night incident involving a Brightline train turned fatal Thursday in Fort Lauderdale, leaving a 25-year-old woman dead after she was struck along the tracks just south of West Broward Boulevard, authorities said.

Emergency crews were dispatched around 9:20 p.m. after receiving reports that a person had been hit by a train in the area. The call brought Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue units and police officers to the scene within minutes.

When responders arrived, they found the woman on the tracks. Officials confirmed she was pronounced dead at the scene. No additional injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

On Friday, Fort Lauderdale police identified the victim as a 25-year-old woman. Investigators said early findings indicate the death appeared to be a suicide, though they did not release additional details about the circumstances leading up to the crash.

The incident prompted a temporary shutdown of West Broward Boulevard in both directions as emergency personnel secured the area and began their investigation. Traffic in the surrounding neighborhood was disrupted for several hours, with detours put in place while crews worked near the tracks.

By early Friday, all lanes had been reopened, and normal traffic flow resumed in the area. Authorities have not reported any ongoing danger to the public related to the incident.

Brightline, a high-speed passenger rail service operating in Florida, has been involved in multiple safety concerns in recent years as it runs through densely populated urban areas and busy road crossings. The company continues to coordinate with local agencies in response to incidents along its rail corridor.
