Broward County, Florida – Broward County Public Schools officials are gathering Monday afternoon for a First Day of School News Conference to discuss the opening of the 2026-27 school year and provide updates on key operations across the district.

The news conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, August 10, at the Kathleen C. Wright Administration Center in Fort Lauderdale. Broward County School Board members, BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn and other district leaders are expected to take part.

The event follows school visits conducted across Broward County by Hepburn, School Board members and district leadership as students and staff begin the new academic year.

Officials plan to use the conference to provide an overview of how the first day has gone and discuss several areas that affect students, families and school employees.

Among the topics expected to be addressed are student enrollment, transportation, school safety and security, staffing and other operational matters connected to the start of the school year.

The first day of school brings a major logistical challenge for one of the largest school districts in the region, with thousands of students and employees returning to classrooms and school campuses. Transportation is one of the key areas being monitored as buses and other services adjust to the demands of the new school year.

Staffing is another focus as district officials review whether schools have the personnel needed to support students and maintain regular operations.

School safety and security are also expected to be part of Monday’s update. District leaders will provide information about measures in place as schools begin the new academic year.

The conference is intended to give the public a broader look at the district’s opening-day operations following visits to schools throughout Broward County.

BCPS has invited the public and media to follow the event through a livestream. The news conference will be available online at https://www.becon.tv/newsconference.

The meeting will take place in the Boardroom of the Kathleen C. Wright Administration Center, located at 600 S.E. Third Avenue in Fort Lauderdale.

The start of a new school year is one of the busiest periods for school district officials, requiring coordination across transportation, staffing, campus operations and safety. Monday’s conference will provide an opportunity for BCPS leaders to discuss those areas and share information about the district’s first day.

The 2026-27 school year is now underway, and district officials are expected to use the news conference to outline the initial results from opening day while highlighting areas that may require continued attention in the days ahead.

Parents, students and community members will be able to follow the district’s updates as BCPS leadership provides its assessment of the first day and discusses the work being done to keep schools operating smoothly.
