Broward man arrested after allegedly threatening to kill couple eating at McDonald’s in Oakland Park

Oakland Park, Florida – A 29-year-old Broward County man was arrested after authorities said he threatened a couple inside a McDonald’s restaurant in Oakland Park and later showed them what appeared to be a handgun.

The incident happened at about 10 p.m. Saturday at the McDonald’s at 265 W. Oakland Park Blvd., according to deputies.

The couple was inside the restaurant when the woman told investigators that the man, identified as Jerimiah Williams, repeatedly looked at her. She told deputies she believed he was either trying to flirt with her or trying to provoke a reaction from her and her boyfriend.

The situation then became more serious.

According to the arrest report, Williams got up from the table where he had been sitting and attempted to signal for the woman to follow him as he walked toward the restaurant bathroom. The woman did not follow him.

Deputies said Williams then approached the couple. During the encounter, he allegedly brushed against the woman before making a direct threat against both of them.

According to the arrest report, Williams told the woman, “You’re going to die and I’m going to shoot your boyfriend,”

The couple then faced another alarming moment when Williams left the restaurant.

Deputies said he walked outside and placed his backpack on the ground. Authorities described the bag as a “military style digital camo backpack.”

Williams allegedly reached inside the backpack and showed the victims what they believed was a black pistol.

At that point, the couple called 911.

After the call was made, deputies said Williams ran from the area along Oakland Park Boulevard. Officers were able to locate him and take him into custody a short distance from the restaurant.

The arrest report noted that deputies searched Williams after he was detained but did not find a firearm.

Authorities have not reported finding a gun connected to the incident. The allegations against Williams are based on the statements provided by the victims and the circumstances described in the arrest report.

Williams is facing three charges in connection with the incident. They include two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and one count of battery.

The case began with what deputies described as an encounter inside a busy fast-food restaurant and quickly escalated into threats involving an apparent weapon. The couple contacted law enforcement, allowing deputies to respond and locate the suspect shortly afterward.

As of Monday night, Williams was being held at the Broward Main Jail. His bond was set at $5,500.

The arrest report provides the account of the victims and deputies, while the allegations against Williams have not been proven in court. The case will proceed through the criminal justice system.
