I-595 to I-75 express lane ramp to close overnight from September 21 through 25

Davie, Florida – Drivers in Broward County should expect an overnight closure on a key connection between I-595 and I-75 later this month as the Florida Department of Transportation carries out construction work.

The entrance ramp from westbound S.R. 862/I-595 Express Lanes to the southbound S.R. 93/I-75 Express Lanes will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Monday, September 21, and continuing through Friday, September 25.

The closure will also affect the southbound S.R. 93/I-75 Express Lanes entrance at Royal Palm Boulevard. FDOT said the overnight restrictions are needed to allow crews to perform underground lighting work and drill shaft operations.

The work is part of the ongoing project in the area of I-75 and Royal Palm Boulevard. While the ramps are closed, motorists will still be able to travel through the area using the general purpose lanes.

Drivers heading toward the southbound I-75 Express Lanes will be directed along S.R. 862/I-595 and onto the southbound S.R. 93/I-75 General Purpose Lanes. From there, they will have an opportunity to return to the Express Lanes at the entrance located at S.R. 822/Sheridan Street.

FDOT said motorists should follow the posted detour signs throughout the closure. Florida Highway Patrol troopers will also be at the site to help drivers navigate the temporary traffic pattern and provide assistance if needed.

The closures are scheduled only during overnight hours, from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. This timing will allow crews to complete the planned work while limiting the impact on daytime traffic.

However, the work schedule could change if conditions require it. FDOT has set aside Monday, September 28, through Friday, October 2, as contingency dates. Those dates will be used if the planned work cannot be completed during the original closure period.

Drivers who regularly use the I-595 and I-75 Express Lanes should plan ahead, particularly if they are traveling during the overnight closure hours. Using the designated detour will add a different step to the usual route, so motorists may want to allow extra time.

The work includes underground lighting and drill shaft operations, which require crews to access areas associated with the roadway and ramps. The temporary closures are intended to provide the space needed for that work while maintaining a designated route for motorists.

For drivers, the main change will be the temporary loss of direct access from the westbound I-595 Express Lanes to the southbound I-75 Express Lanes during the overnight work. Once the construction activity is finished and the closures are lifted, the normal route is expected to resume.
