Pine Crest celebrates 31 members of the Class of 2027 named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Pine Crest, Florida – The students earned recognition through the National Merit Scholarship Program, a nationwide competition that honors high-achieving students and provides opportunities for college scholarships. The recognition places the Pine Crest students among a select group of students being considered for one of the program’s scholarships.

The Pine Crest Semifinalists are Koray Abramson ’27, Vedaant Agarwal ’27, Christopher Amster ’27, Brie Boyd ’27, Gabriel Cardona ’27, Brock Caruso ’27, Victoria Chang ’27, Benjamin Chen ’27, Dennis Colak ’27, Joseph Cucinotta ’27, Dev Das ’27, Nash Dettor ’27, Genevieve Driscoll ’27, Aanik Ghosh ’27, Noah Goldfaden ’27, Sienna Grajski ’27, Dylan Gray ’27, Mason Linsky ’27, Maya Litinetsky ’27, Nicholas Lynn ’27, Beckett Metzger ’27, Hannah Ning ’27, Ananya Patel ’27, Chyriece Perido ’27, Colette Petit ’27, Alexander Picos ’27, Elijah Poisik ’27, Arjun Reddy ’27, Rafael Teplitsky ’27, Christopher Wakefield ’27 and Edward Wang ’27.

Their selection follows the students’ performance on the Preliminary SAT, or PSAT, which serves as the entry point for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Students must reach a qualifying score to enter the competition, making the Semifinalist designation an important academic milestone during their junior year.

The recognition, however, is not the final step. The students now have the opportunity to continue through the National Merit selection process and apply to become Finalists.

To be considered for Finalist status, students must provide several pieces of information about their academic work and achievements. The application includes a personal essay, high school grades, a recommendation from a school official and a score from either the SAT or ACT.

The next stage will narrow the field further. Students who become Finalists will be eligible to compete for the National Merit Scholar designation, as well as scholarship opportunities supported by different organizations.

Scholarships can be sponsored by private businesses or corporations, colleges and universities, or the National Merit Scholarship Corporation itself. The awards are designed to recognize students for their academic performance while helping support their future college education.

For the 31 Pine Crest students, the Semifinalist announcement marks the beginning of another stage in the competition. Their academic records and additional application materials will now be considered as they seek to advance to Finalist status.

The National Merit Scholarship winners are scheduled to be announced in summer 2027, giving the Class of 2027 students several more months to complete the remaining steps in the process.

For Pine Crest, the recognition also highlights the strong academic performance of a large group of students from the same graduating class. With 31 members named Semifinalists, the Class of 2027 will now continue through one of the country’s best-known academic scholarship competitions.
